What are your favorite charities?
Here's mine
http://www.americares.org/

I like that so much of the $ donated goes straight to the impoverished.

I also donate to St. Judes and will support my friends financially on the Avon Breast Cancer walks.

Where do you like to spread your goodwill to?

St. Jude Childrens Hospital - my #1 priority..

We bring kids from the Chernobyl area to the US for six weeks every summer to get them away from the lingering radiation. Just 6 weeks of clean air, good nutrition, dental care, etc can add 5-10 years to their lifespan. You can host the same child each year or bring over a new child every year. We really love it!!

American Heart, American Lung, different veterans causes, United Way, Catholic Charities.

http://www.fisherhouse.org/ Specifically the Tripler Fisher House, about 3 miles from me.

The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House™ at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House™ program serves more than 10,000 families, and have made available nearly 2.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!

In addition to constructing new houses, Fisher House™ Foundation continues to support existing Fisher Houses™ and help individual military families in need. Families and friends of patients at any of the military's hospitals can now receive up-to-the-minute reports on a loved one by going to the patient's own customized web page, thanks to new services provided through CaringBridge. We are also proud to administer and sponsor Scholarships for Military Children, the Hero Miles program, and co-sponsor the Newman's Own Award.

shriner's children's hospitals. any child that can benefit from their medical services is treated at no charge.

localy-washington state elks club. they provide free occupational therapy for children in their homes.

We have several as a family.

MDA.

We donate through the UW to a local children's advocate agency.

Shriner's.

We also adopt a family each year...and provide necessities for the family...in addition to some "fun things".

I think it's very important to teach children to be charitable.

My personal "favorite" charity is local. They have two fundraisers a year to provide food to families during the holidays. I donate to the auctions and try to attend them and buy raffle tickets as well, and my oldest daughter and I have volunteered over the years to box and deliver the food.

Beyond that favorite, I donate to all kinds of things as they present themselves. I whip out my coin purse for nearly anybody who has a jar or donation taker at a store I walk into; breast cancer research, MDA, MOD, the local childrens hospitals, jars put out for local people who have been injured or had a house fire, etc. We don't have a lot of money, so it usually is only change or dollar bills, but I think every little bit helps.

CHOC!

Children's Hospital of Orange County. Look in my signature! The annual walk is this Sunday at Disneyland! Disney is the top sponsor, too.

If you have spare change, please PM me and I will be happy to take your donation for this fabulous cause!

There are so many wonderful charities...
Here in Atlanta, there is one called Berts Big Adventure, where they take terminally and chronically ill children and their families to Disneyworld who, otherwise may never get the chance to go.

Ones I've personally been a part of is Childrens Miracle Network and Georgia Council on Child Abuse.
I also want to join that ASPCA... that commercial with Sarah McClaclans ANGEL song and the poor mistreated animals gets me every time!!!!

Wonderful charities everyone! Cindyluwho I had never heard of that! I am checking it out. We've got plenty of fresh air here in the country.

My Dad's big one is this

Oh and also this one
http://www.kiva.org/

I have to ask him if he ever got repaid. I remember him loaning money about 2 years ago to someone starting a small grocery shop.

One of my favorites is Make-a-Wish Foundation. My family has experienced the wonder of that organization firsthand, and I applaud all that they do. :lovestruc

I also contribute to a number of Lutheran charities and to a local food bank.

Breast Cancer
Multiple Sclerosis
and
Make-A-Wish

Those are the biggies and then there are a few local Food Pantries and Sports Teams that we help out, along with the Fire and Police Department of our Town.

Planned Parenthood - they do more to prevent abortions than almost any other organization.

Pigs.org - animal sanctuary in West Virginia

Then I support local hospitals, and museums.

I give to this charity, I love anything to help the hungry and this one is local

Philabundance

March of Dimes

I donate lots of food to food drives and banks, our church collects lots of food and baby formula, and so does the Salvation Army.
