We are planning a trip with another family and are looking into getting a 2 bd, likely by renting DVC points. We'll have a party of eight plus an infant.

Favorite spots? Pros/cons? We were looking at Wilderness, AKL and BLT but love to hear any other recommendations.

Depends on age of children, which park(s) you'll most likely spend the most time in, and how much time you'll spend at the resort. BLT is great for proximity to monorail and walking distance to MK and view of Wishes if you get a TPV. Wilderness is very 'woodsy' looking and has the benefit of taking a boat to MK or Contemporary where you can get on the monotrail, but they'll be building some DVCs there I believe, so construction may or may not be an issue. AKL I've heard is nice, but if your family likes MK and Epcot, you're not all that close.

Ages of kids are 10 to 1. We'd probably spend the most time at MK but plan to hit all the parks.

AKL looks great and the price is right but I do worry about it being far out there.

depending on your dates, WL is probably very similarly priced to AKL -- maybe even a bit cheaper depending on type of room.

AKL Kidani Village only and BLT both have 3 bathrooms in a 2 bedroom. With that many people it is a very nice to have the extra bathroom. I will say Kidani is not my favorite side of AKL but it has some nice features for example the pool has a far better slide and a really nice water play area and the master bedroom and bathroom are amazing. If 2 bathrooms is ok then you can book at Jambo house or WL. I like both never get tired of looking at animals at AKL (either side for that fact) But Jambo has a lot more going on during the day and night for kids and adults... WL has the Geyser and I love the lobby of the DVC side as well as the main but the DVC side has a very nice small room.... the rest to find out for yourself... The budget is up to as there will be large difference in price from BLT as you will likely not be able to book a value view unless you find an owner and book 11 months out. On a side note... I am not a fan of BLT but the one thing that makes it worth while for me is top of the world but as a renter you will not have access to this and they do check your magic bands.... it is however very very very nice to be able to walk to MK or shall I say back if you stay until park closing.

I agree with having that many people and taking advantage of a resort with 3 bathrooms. I find AKL to be a vacation within a vacation, but you will have travel time. While I own at BLT it is hard to book, takes more pts, and honestly I was pretty tired taking advantage of the walk from MK to BLT every time. We also didn't use the BLT pool during our stay it was during the spring and the Contemporary side had much more sun and was less crowded. I guess I'm not a big fan of BLT as well.

When you have two families in one two bedroom villa, who gets the master bedroom and bathroom? Does one family pay more to get the king bed or do you split it evenly? If one family owns the DVC points, they get to decide who gets the master bedroom and bathroom. But if both families are putting in money to rent it, it may make it more difficult to decide. Either two studios or two one bedroom villas might work out better.

Oh it's not hard to figure out. I obviously wouldn't be planning a trip with a family who we couldn't come to an agreement about that kind of thing with. I think we'd probably let the other family have the master because they have a baby who'll sleep in the room, we'd put all the kids together in the other bedroom, and we'd take the main room. We're happy to split the cost evenly.

We want to be able to be together after the kids go to sleep so a 1 bedroom wouldn't allow for that.

We stayed in a 2bdrm at AKV- Kidani last October with my parents and it was great! Because AKL/AKV doesn't share buses with other resorts, the transportation to the parks really was excellent. Our kids are 11 and 13, so we split time at the parks more equally than when they were younger (actually we spent the most time at EP this trip due to Food & Wine). For little ones, if you plan to spend the most time at MK, you really can't beat BLT (we stayed there one night on a non-parks trip), but of course it is pricey. In terms of space, you might consider OKW. It is more centrally located to all of the parks and the villas are the biggest of all DVC. And the price is definitely right! The only issue with OKW is that most buildings don't have elevators, so you may be walking up stairs with all of your stuff. AKV and BLT having the 3rd bathroom make them extra nice also. We own DVC and enjoy trying out different resorts, and I really think you can't go wrong with any of them.

We love AKV. Kidani has long hallways, but a much better pool and kids splash area, third bathroom and is the first bus stop. Jambo has the huge lobby, quick service, but is the second bus stop and only has DVC rooms on the 5th and 6th floors. For a better savannah view, we always request a lower floor at Kidani. The bus service is excellent and in the whole scheme of things, what are you talking about, maybe adding 5 - 10 more minutes onto the commute? No biggie in our opinion.

Any DVC resort will give you what you are looking for, you just need to narrow those needs down. Want/need space? Go for OKW. Want/need walking to MK? Go for BLT. Want/need a vacation within a vacation? Go for AKV. Want/need to be right next to DTD? Go for SSR.

I love Kidani.......yes, it's a bit removed from all the parks, but that's really not an issue. Just plan accordingly. Being able to watch those animals is wonderful. I love sitting on the balcony of my savannah view villa, with a cup of coffee in the morning, watching the grounds come alive.
