Faucet Mounted Water Filter Update

We recently returned from the Beach Club Villas and just wanted to let everyone know that we did have problems attaching our water filter to the kitchen sink faucet... not because it wouldn't fit - but it looked as if the part that we needed to remove was intentionally glued on. We had two different rooms during our stay (that's another story) and found it almost impossible to remove the end of the faucet without a wrench - which we did not bring (directions made it seem so simple). My DH is determined to make it work next time - and claims it is possible to safely install a water filter without harming the faucet. (Our filter was a PUR system) I will let you know what happens when we return to BCV in February.

We had to use a wrench to install our faucet mounted water filter at home....so it doesn't seem that odd that a wrench would be needed at BCV. Of course its perfectly possible to install it without hurting a thing, as long as you're concientious of putting the proper parts back on when you leave.

We used to use the Pur faucet mount filter...but after having 2 of them strip to the point of not staying on the faucet any longer (particularly a risk if you move it frequently) we switched to a refrigerator pitcher (also Pur). We plan on taking it to BWV at the end of the month.

Actually hauling filled bottles of water is not as simple as taking my fridge pitcher....which is why I'll take it! I had thought of just using bottled water, but I really hate lugging it from the grocery store (which is why I got a filter pitcher in the first place! LOL)

But hey, everyone must do what works for them!

This will be the catch, will those doing this put everything back as it was before. I would also recommend the water pitcher for the refrigerator instead of the faucet kind.

I guess I don't understand why you would even want to do this. Do you plan on installing your own A/C filters to make sure the air is really clean?

Well, you would need a key to do that, but, what they hey, when you bring the wrench (which defeats the purpose of Disney making sure you could not remove the lip on the faucet) bring a screwdriver and just jimmy the lock.

It probably was intentionally glued on so that folks could not ruin the faucet by putting these fiilters on and off. If it was obviously glued on, why would you want to even attempt it? They apparently don't want you to do this.
The suggestions of a fridge pitcher are excellent, I would go that way.

Actually I do somewhat check the A/C vents and would insist on a new filter if things looked dirty and we were going to be staying more than 3 days or so (I would call housekeeping/maintenance....not try to do it myself!) . My kids are very sensitive to particles in the air...my ds was very sick as a baby for this reason...and we generally need to change our filters more often that most people do because we all get sick if they aren't clean. If the problem were any worse we'd probably carry our own air cleaner with us...though luckily we haven't had problems that bad since my oldest was a baby. The daycare where I worked would not change their filters and I had to quit the job before he was able to get better.

Oddly enough, we don't have problems in smoking rooms (we don't smoke but have been given them on occasion) just with regular dust and particles that are in all air vents.

Also, I think its likely that the faucet ends are just stubborn....after a while minerals build up and make it difficult to get those ends off (like at my previous apartment). But I really haven't looked at them myself....if they are actually glued, I would assume that there is a reason and I wouldn't remove them.

I was actually thinking of bringing along my DirecTV Dish and installing it on the balcony so I could watch football on Sunday.


I think DVC management and maintenance would prefer if we left things alone in the rooms. If there's a health issue, call them and let them fix things.

I completely agree. Although the DISH does sound good, then I could get tennis.
