Fellow budgeters, any good ideas for Father's Day- dads (husband)and grandpas? I am out of ideas!

I've started cooking meals at my house for my dad/grandpa. Neither of them are really into gifts-they just want family to be together. Makes my life easier!! (well, except the cooking/clean up part ;) )

Oh, and for my husband I have no clue-I insisted on no gifts for mother's day (I don't need anything!) and he got me a nail salon gift card and flowers....he's difficult.

Last year I found a brand of root beer called "Dad's" and bought him a bottle of that. I tied a gasoline gift card to it. He just might get that again this year.

really depends on the guy.
my dad is very difficult to buy for because when you asked him what he wants for fathers day/his birthday/christmas he always says "you don't need to get me anything".

so you end up having to pick up on little hints throughout the year.

since he really doesn't need much we often times get him a gift card.
for example he loves this ice cream place that is open seasonally so we like to get him a gift card for there.

this father's day we actually knew exactly what to get him.
he's a farmer and loves his tractors. he also loves models of the tractors that he owns so we finally found this particular tractor model that he's been looking for.
it cost $200 but it is an amazing little thing and we know he'll love it.

Ha, sounds like we all have those difficult men who want and need nothing, ugh! I guess a homemade card from the kids and maybe an iTunes gift card like I always get!

Low budget and something he has liked in the past were magazine subscriptions.

Really depends on what he likes... Here's what Ive bought in the past.

Cars - Car detailing stuff
Music - Gift card to the local music store
Golf - 18 holes for him and a buddy with a cart
Power Tools - The Craftsman drill he wanted (or a gift card)
Dinner at his favorite restaurant
New fishing rod
A new watch
Surround sound for the TV

Hope this helps and good luck @DSNY4ever

My dad always insisted he didn't want anything. Last year I got him a "#1 dad" tervis coffee mug and wrote him a letter about my favorite memories with him. He absolutely loved it and it turned out to be our last Father's Day with him.

That is really sweet Lisaloo. What a great gift.

I like the dinner gift card idea, I might do that for DH, thanks!

This year, I lucked out and came up with a couple great ideas. I'm getting my dad a butterfly house kit (the wooden kind they roost in overwinter), and to go along with it, my daughters are getting him a personalized hammer that says "Papa, we love building memories with you" on the handle. Other years, I've had some major difficulty, cause he will never give me ideas. But he absolutely loves nature, especially butterflies and dragonflies. For his birthday in March we got him a gift certificate to a place that you can order butterfly larvae (caterpillars) from.. he's been finding Monarch caterpillars in years past and bringing them inside to complete their life cycle, then releasing the butterflies... so figured this year, he could try a different type of butterfly (that's legal to release here of course).

Don't know if this is his thing or not but a hunting/fishing liscense is great bang for your buck.

I planned on getting his road bike tuned up. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not putting the shed back to normal. He went in there today to get the lawnmower out and saw his mountain bike not in its normal spot and freaked out because he then saw his road bike missing. So now he knows his gift. But I also plan on taking him to the Nautilus sub museum with the kids with a packed picnic after giving him time to use his road bike in the morning so at least there's some things he still doesn't know about. He gets to have alone time and time with family which I think will be nice for him and the museum is free entry. I typically have the kids make him something like a card or piece of art.

This year I'm making cinnamon pecans for the grandpas. My boys are making mosaic handprint stones for my husband since we just bought a new house.
