I just finished ordering one gift I plan for the kids to give my wounderful husband, and their father, on June 18th. He's getting the 3 disc cd of the "Real Men Of Genius" Bud Light commercials! I was so happy that budshop.com still had them! He'd mentioned he wanted them last year and I never got around to looking. So, he won't expect it. :thumbsup2

We're also going to get him a tv/wb radio for his workroom, so he can listen to the Cardinals play baseball while he putters.

A favorite form a few years ago, we got him a nice badgers hair shaving brush, some good shaving soaps and a Geo S. Trumper old fashioned safety razor. It's like the Rolls Royce of razors, very elegant, and built to last. He also gave his own father a custom made fishing rod, specially designed to honor him and his service to the USMC, complete with valor medals

Guys, what have you gotten that you really liked? What are you planning to give, or have given and it went over well?

My husband picked his own Father's Day gift this year. He and our two sons are going to hire a private charter fishing boat to go out in the Gulf for a week-end of fishing. All I have to do is sit on the beach, and soak up the sun for the weekend! Sun, beach, quiet, relaxation, a pretty nice gift for me too! :cool1:

My DH needs some quick-n-dirty Spanish lessons. (He's travelling to Mexico and Spain for work a lot this summer.)

I'd love to give him lessons he can put on his iPod. Has anyone seen something like this?

TIA,

For my DH, we (DSs and I) bought him a zipline ride at the Utah Olympic park. It's something he has wanted to do for a long time. We do alot of "experience" gifts for each other- hot air ballooning, vacations, race car rides, etc.

I guess this is a year for fishing trips-I'm getting my husband a gift certificate for my son and husband to go on a guided fishing trip. It's not quite as glamorous as the trip momsgonwild is giving to her husband since my husband's fishing trip will be on a lake, instead of in the Gulf. However, the important thing is that the guide cleans the fish!

I don't think men really care where they fish as long as they come back stinking, and carrying a baggie filled with fish. :rotfl2:

My Dad's birthday is 6/18 so I usually get him something really nice as opposed to getting him 2 gifts.
Some past big hits were:
- beer making kit
- last year I got him all the ingredients to make his own mai tai's (a lot more $$ than one would expect)
- a fire pit

This year I'm going basic. I'm getting him a Tommy Bahama shirt. He loves Hawaiian shirts (people at work call him Magnum) and he aspires to travel to Cuba one day so I got him a shirt from T.B's Havana line.

well i just gave myself a gift, and after seeing the results i think any dad would be thrilled to get the same-i had my car detailed inside and out at the local car dealership. it is amazing how they took my "mom-mobile" mini van with all the kid grunge (food stains, ground in crayons, and general uck) and wear and tear from the past 4 1/2 years and managed to "erase" it. my car looks like it just came off the show-room floor.

our local dealership charges anywhere from $150 up (depending on how bad it is)-but the results are incredible.

Well, I usually give a framed picture of me and the kids which is a rarity and he seems to enjoy it as I am not usually the one to get in front of the camera - I am usually the one taking pictures.

This year we are also designing a cooking apron just for him. It's a fun thing for us because we have a joke that he never cooks for us. I get a feeling he will love it and have a great laugh.

Last Year

Birthday:
-USA travel coffee table book
-Corresponding USA travel DVDs
-Homemade "scrapbook"-like, travel-themed personal "Journey of Life" card

Father's Day:
-Store-bought cards

This Year

Birthday:
-Store-bought cards

Father's Day:
-Variety of car-related books (lighter reading, heavier on pictures - my dad's not a "reader")
-Car-related DVDs
-Some homemade CarTunes CDs
-Some of his favorite snacks (as I remember)
-Homemade card
(I'd include tickets to Pixar's Cars, but likely my folks will have seen it by then.)

*****

Gift-giving isn't really done much on DH's side, but:

This year DH's Dad:
-Birthday & Father's Day store-bought cards
-DVD collections of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom
-DH visited over Memorial Weekend (out of state)

Past:
-Usually cards & phone calls

What a great idea! I just ordered a set of these for DH and for DBIL. I had never heard of these before. Thanks for the tip! :woohoo:

When the kids were small, we made him a tie. We bought a solid navy blue tie and got some yellow, light blue and white fabric paint. We painted a hand for each kid in a different color and then wrote the name under the handprint. It really turned out nice.

I think one of the gifts that my dad just loved was an electronic photo frame that I got him that would rotate 20 photos every minute or so. I would upload the photos on the web and he would see these photos the next day. He had it in his office and it generated a lot of nice comments. Since he lived over 800 miles away, it was a nice way for him to see his loved ones - us.

Another gift he loved was the Godfather trilogy on dvd. :)
