Ok, I have been hemming and hawing all over the place trying to decide if or how to do Universal Parks. So I'm going to lay what's scaring me on the line and hope that someone here can help me.

I weigh 311 lbs - at best by our trip I might be able to get down to 280
My wife weighs 360 lbs at best she might make 330 by the time we go. I know weight can be lost faster - I also know us.

Will there be much we can even ride?
We go to our local six flags and pay to walk around and watch a show or two... because that's all we can fit on. Ky Kingdom was way cheaper then Universal will be. I can't stand the idea of dropping 600 bucks then not being able to do anything but walk around and watch a show or two.

Help - gently please? You can't say anything nasty to me that I haven't already said to myself about my weight.

I don't know if this helps but I am 6 ft and weigh about 270 and I manage to be able to fit most of the rides but some do give me trouble like hrrr and dragon challenge but as far as the hulk it doesn't cause I ask for the bigger seats which are in rows three and six and depends who's in the car when I ride the mummy cause it depends on how tight they push down the lap bar but they always have test seats that you can try before riding and the theme of IOA is done so well we love taking a day to walk around looking and taking it all in

OMG..you are so hard on yourself! I don't know the answer to your question...but I do know that quick weight loss leads to quick weight gain. Just make a long term commitment and go slow and steady. Maybe it will be easier since you are in it together? Love yourself and know you are worth the effort!!!

There are still a lot of attractions you can go on/watch: At IOA- Spider-Man, Cat in the Hat, Storm Force, Sky Trolley, Jurassic Park, Popeye and Bluto's, Hippogriff, Poseidon's Fury, Sinbad Show. At USF- Despicable Me, Terminator, Tranformers (assuming since it's the same ride vehicle as Spider-Man), Twister, Disaster, Men in Black, E.T., Simpsons, Horror Make-Up Show, Animal Actors, Beetlejuice Revue...

Best of luck with the weight loss!

When are you going? What a great motivator to lose some lbs! I have no idea about the rides, etc but maybe if you and your wife just try walking every night after dinner (to get ready to walk the parks) the weight loss will come on its on. Good luck! And don't be so hard on yourself!

I have never been more upset and embarrassed than my trip to Universal Studios. DH and I went to check out the Harry Potter section. I am 5'3" and 250# and DH 5'10" and 250 as well. Neither of us could ride any of the rides in this section. The problem, we missed the trial seats in front of the ride and waited 2 hours in line to find out that neither of us could ride.:sad::sad:

I know this was my mistake, but I try to warn everyone to check the seats on the outside of the ride. After that I was so upset that I didn't try the other rides with extended seats, so I am sorry that I can't speak to how much larger they were. I would have been so much more upset. A lot of money for us to go in, order lunch, wait in line and then leave. :sad2:

BTW chest size at the time was ~50-52 in. if that helps (50-38-53). I have never had the same experience at Disney and my DS and I ride all of the rides together.

I hope you have a fun time!

Universal is not fat friendly at all. But there is still plenty to do, you'll get your money's worth.

That's strange cause I am 6ft and 270 lbs and they never told me I couldn't ride the Harry potter ride

Oh hey, take it easy on yourself.

DH has not yet been able to ride the "big" rides. He's 5'10"ish and has known his weight for trips when he was 380ish then 360ish. He tries, and now I'm taking pictures of the buckle, so we have a record of his progress. :)

But even though the Hulk, RRR, FJ, Dragon Challenge, FearFall, and I think I'm missing another, and Mummy aren't possible right now, he still has a GREAT time at Universal. He's bummed, because he's a "big ride" lover. I'm bummed because I HATE those rides but won't let DS go on them alone, so I've been going with him and hating every second of it. We were supposed to do Dragon Challenge one day, and it was after Hulk and RRR, and as we were taking a bit of a break they looked over and noticed that I was in tears from fear of the ride (I'd already gone on it on our previous trip to see if I could do it). They, thankfully, cancelled the plan of riding it. Anyway, once DH can ride it, I don't have to.

But my point is there are SO many other rides there that unless you are a serious thrill ride junky, you will still have good days.

And it is very dependent on how you carry your weight. With DH, along with being bigger than you NickyKnack, carries his weight everywhere. HIs back is broad and thick, for lack of a better word, so squeezing into the Forbidden Journey seat is impossible...his shoulders just won't go back enough to get the restraint down, not even in the extended restraint seats. For the Mummy, his big sumo legs won't squeeze together enough to go between the lap bar "legs" so he can get his belly over the lap bar. (his legs have always been massive, though, so I don't know if he'll ever be able to ride it) For Hulk, the seatbelt coming up from the seat and clipping in to the bottom of the U of the restraint won't close (would be the same on Fearfall if I'm remembering the restraint correctly). For RRR the way the seat closes makes it impossible for him.

If you carry your weight differently, then some might be possible. Alas, unless your wife is super-tall, I'm not sure she'll have luck, even if you do.

It wasn't my weight as a number. My chest was too large for the restraint to click down (it was close and I really tried. :) ) They never questioned me.

I agree with the other posters on this thread, and the OP I commend you for looking into it ahead of time (I wish I had). I would have had a much better day had I been prepared. I was so excited and then to have it crash on the first ride, I created my own dissappointment (again it was my fault I was almost in tears the rest of the day). Had I gone in with the mentality of I would only try the rides with extended seats, and not really only go for the Harry Potter exihibit, things would have been much different for my day. :thumbsup2

At my worst a year ago I was 320 I am 6'3. I fit on forbidden journey. However weight is only a number it's all in how you hold it. Cuz I was a skinny 320.

Not to split hairs or anything but HP is not in the Studios park...at least not yet. ;)

The definition of overreacting was my post. Deleted because I realized what the above poster meant. Sorry.

I understand what your saying cause in my younger days ( lol ) I use to work out with weights and built up my chest and its 52 inches and I rode the dragon challenge when it was the dueling dragons and the tm had to press with everything they had to get it to latch and I went thru the whole ride not being able to breath
So that was the last and only time I rode it

OP, first of all I just wanted to commend you on your weight loss. I know how hard it can be. I was once overweight and I have always used trips like this as a motivator--managing to keep it off (albeit yo-yoing up and down a bit) for 8 years now.

These days I am pretty thin but still also very tall. Not the same problem, I know, but all the same...I find that I am often trying to 'crumple myself' into rides. As others have said, Universal has test seats outside of almost every ride. No, you may not get on Rip or HP, but there is still plenty to do! Go and enjoy yourselves and don't worry about it. Have a great time!

I can understand where you are coming from. I'm 5'4", currently 320 (although, like you & your wife, trying to lose weight before the trip) and I have issues at Six Flags as well.

We are only going for one day so I plan on just enjoying it as much as I possibly can and even though it might not be the right attitude, I'm going into figuring I'm not going to fit on anything. That way, if I do, it will just make it more special and less disappointing if I don't.

I hope you and your wife have a wonderful trip! Please report back when you've returned to let us all know your experience.
