Here is the scenario. I am in the park and have used my 3 fastpasses. My sister is in the park too but not with me. She texts me that she has a fastpasses upcoming for TM and isn’t going to go. You can no longer change guests- if you both entered the same park on the same day you can exchange bands.

Oh sweet - last time I looked I didn't see this option so i thought they "closed it".
It's never changed on the website, only the app. There is no rule against changing people on a FP. I did it numerous times last week, for various reasons. When members of the group were not going to be together and as such, unable to share bands but needed to move around our FP.

Good to know - I usually do it in advance as my nieces sometimes join us but its never definite and they don't get tickets until the last minute (college students) so its nice to use my "banked" tickets to book FP for them along with ours just in case and then transfer.
I was really disappointed when I read that the change feature was removed so I am happy to know it wasn't.

Thanks for the update and sorry OP for the misinformation - glad to be wrong :)

Ok, it's there now. Until it's gone, it's a feature that can be used.
I think I'm going to write a letter right now to explain my disappointment in the removal from the app. I didn't before but maybe I should. There are many reasons why this can be used between members of a party that did enter the park together, when minds change, etc. Heck, maybe you thought Susie would be tall enough for Mine Train and she's not so you want to let her FP be used by Sally instead. Why should Susie's FP be lost? Yep, letter shall be written. Probably wasting my time but won't be the first or the last.

Agree - the change feature is useful in many ways and IMHO all / if not most of them don't cheat the system. (I don't!)

Although - I am almost at my witts end with Disney as much as I LOVE it.. trips are becoming more complicated and expensive. Just one recent issue is that I often treat my niece who lives in FL and joins us, we love having her but she drives over so it now adds another 15/20/25 a day to my bill for a parking fee. For context - I never minded the extra adult fee - its imho reasonable and in line with other hotel/resorts we stay at.

If this change party is another "feature" that goes away that may well be the one that does it for me.

As of now we already moved to the Dolphin for our August trip after so many issues with onsite resorts in January, March and April, as well as the inability to make FP+ in May (GR had to do it for me) before re-creating my MDE account.

eta - clarify

If you’d care to share it, I’d be interested in hearing any response you get to your letter.

Maybe people were booking resort reservations, then booking FP's 60 days out, then telling people "Hey, I got these FP's, I'll charge you for them" ? Just a hunch, it probably happened.

You would have to be friends on MDE to do that. I don't know about you but I am not putting a bunch of strangers on my MDE account and sharing plans together like that

People do stranger things for money.

Right now I could easily take advantage of this because I have family going with me in December for a trip and we already have their tickets purchased...we will be there in 2 weeks without the other family members....I won't because it's not the intended use and likely the reason for the change.

I’m fairly certain Disney made this change not to inconvenience the average guest but to stop this strategy of folks “banking” additional FPs over and above their normal 3, then transferring them later to themselves or others after they have used their regular FPs. They are trying to stop this practice as it gives an advantage to some over the normal guest who is limited to advance planning for just 3 FPs. Once the ability to “bank” additional FPs is no longer possible there will be additional FP availability for everyone else. (Yeah!)

For most guests the ability to no longer change party for a FP will be minor. They will simply just exchange magic bands with those in their party who don’t want to ride.

Agree regarding abuse - -- but Disney has the ability to see if you have transferred a FP+ from a guest who hasn't entered the park vs one who has and can then lock out your DME as they do for other violations of this nature.

There are honest reasons to use the change party option vs simply switching MB's so like the posters up-thread I hope they keep this.

While there may be honest reasons to use the change party option, Disney solution to the problem of abuse is pro-active - preventing abuse rather than punishing abusers. The solution may have been more dictated by what was easier to do as an IT fix. Who knows. It may have been dictated by consideration that folks keeping finding work-arounds to take advantage of the system.

Just have her give you her MB to wear and scan her band as you enter the ride.

She can't. See the bold above.

But they have gone in to IT and made a fix to block people who abuse the system. They are punishing those who abuse in other ways. If someone who hasn't enter the park has a FP that isn't used the person who uses the FP has their account locked. They can do the same for a FP that is changed, if the person who it was changed from didn't enter the park the one who uses it has their account locked. Same thing.

I agree that the day of, they should just prevent fp from being transferred unless both people have entered the park. That allows flexibility but prevents abuse.

If you do not update the app, you retain the ability to transfer the people. If you already have updated but backed up the old version to itunes/your computer, maybe you can get the older version back that way. Luckily I read about this here and so have stopped updating the app. I find it interesting that no real reason is given for the update...just the standard bugs and improvement line.
