Fastpass with hotel change

I currently have an onsite hotel booked and will soon be able to book my fastpasses. I wasn't able to get the hotel I really wanted and so I am hoping some availability will open up and I can book it and then cancel my existing reservation. My question is; will I loose my fastpasses and have to start all over if I cancel my existing reservation? Just for clarification, the dates I will be there will stay the same if I do change hotels.

Well...that depends, I think. Did you book a package? If so, cancelling the hotel cancels the tickets...so the fastpasses will go away. If it's not a package you should be fine, as fastpasses are linked to tickets, not the room.

Either way, I would book your new room before cancelling your old one, to reduce your risk, especially if you're changing it before the 30 day mark. I might even go as far as say book the new room on the phone, in order to have someone on the line if something does get screwed up.

My reservation is room only not a package. I have a couple weeks before my 60 day mark so hopefully I can get a new room before then!

If you book your second hotel reservation before you cancel the one you have now, you should not have a problem.

I just had this happen, actually. The resort where I had originally booked in October recently had a cheaper room type open up, which is what I wanted. It was a few days after I had booked FP for our trip. I went ahead any booked the new reservation. Then I went back and cancelled the first reservation. I was a little bit nervous I would lose the FP's but it was fine.

I think if you are within the regular (offsite) booking window, it does not matter. You should be able to safely cancel one and then book the other. However, if it is still within the time that that only onsite guests can make FP selections, you need to have your second reservation in place before cancelling the first.

I recently had this kind of situation. If you make your new reservations, then cancel the old one afterwards, you won't lose your fast passes. Just don't cancel the first reservation before you make the new one. I had room only, that might matter.
