This was posted today on the Disney Parks Blog:

“Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” is included in regular admission to Disney California Adventure Park. You can check the show times guide on the day of your visit for the performance schedule, and Disney’s FASTPASS service will also be available.

Does anyone have more news or information about the FASTPASS for this event/attraction?

It may be like when frozen was at the fantasyland theater playing. Go in the morning to a movable cart and get a fastpass to return for a specific show time. And it will be off the grid. That would be my guess.

They were testing out using the FP system for the Aladdin Musical at the Hyperion before it closed and the guessing was that it was partial a test for using it when the new Frozen show opened. There is some information in this thread about how the Aladdin FP system worked. Other having confirmed that they're going to be using FP for Frozen at the Hyperion, we don't know the other details about how it'll be implemented yet (i.e., whether it'll be the same as when they did it for Aladdin or if they'll have made modifications).

Hey, remember when there used to be FPs for doing the Frozen M&G. Yeah, good times. I remember when it was at DL and it took me 50 minutes just to get a FP. Nightmare! Once it moved to DCA, I still had to get a FP, but it was a slam dunk to get one at the mobile FP carts. And the last trip, we just walked into the Art of Animation room and stood in line for 15 minutes.

I would anticipate the same for the show. FPs will go fast for about a year, maybe less. Then it'll just be getting in line as usual.

The FP could just be temporary, but FP for the shows could become standard practice with the new FP+ system. It may be that people make FP+ reservations for the show for years to come and that those who come standby get the seats that are left. Could be good if you want certain seats, could be bad if you were willing to wait for the seats normally, but aren't willing to use your FP for the good seats.

I have mixed feelings about FP for shows. I'm fine with it how it is now. But I have this funny feeling that if they move to electronic FPs, show FPs might be back on the grid and keep you from getting another one for 2 hours.

I know that is how it is for WDW, but they get to book 3 FP at once, hopefully DL stays 1 FP at a time. I wouldn't mind the FP counting for something like the Frozen show or Disney Junior, but I wouldn't want that to be the case with WOC or F! since those are evening shows. Though if they kept the two hour rule it wouldn't be so bad if you arrived at opening. You could book F! when you entered, enjoy the short lines the first two hours, and then get ride FP. If they do move to FP+ I want them to start ASAP, so people can figure out how to best use it and give tips before I go next summer.

I love the idea of FP for WOC and F!...but I don't get it for the Hyperion. You are still gonna have to arrive early to the holding pen if you want a decent or choice of seat...so what is the advantage?

I'm all for FPs for shows, but only if it does not block you out of other FPs. We are going late June. So, the show still should be popular, plus it's a busy time. Having an FP to secure a time, even if I don't want to line up super early to get the best seats, is good with me.

How is having to arrive early for a show at the Hyperion any different then having to arrive early for WoC or F! Regardless of having a FP you still seem to have to arrive an hour or more early for those too.

This would be surprising to me. They were not issued that way for Aladdin or Fantasmic. Disney's goal is to fill each show, so they tend to issue the fastpasses until they fill or get to a certain percentage full before rolling them over to the next time slot. Perhaps though if they start to implement these fastpass+ changes, they will just start dispensing fastpasses for all show times at once. Huh.

This is what I meant. But I can see how what I said could be viewed as 4 - 5 different times pick one. No I meant at park opening show 1, when that is sold out, Show 2, etc. etc.

They actually were issued that way for Aladdin when it first opened. The CMs had stacks of FPs and stood at the end of the street near the false theater front and handed them out. I don't think they would do it that way again because Disney loses any data they can get from scanning your barcode.

FPs for the sing along were connected, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that these will be connected at some point too.

I understand that Disney would want to fill all the shows and doing the FP in that order makes sense. I'm just thinking of FP+ in WDW where they can choose the show hour. If it's truly coming to DL, it would be nice to pick show times. It's actually one of the benefits I see to the system at DL. Picking the perfect show time, seating area, etc. are common questions on the boards as people want what they want, but the way FP is handled can make it difficult for them.

FP isn't the only way to see the show. If they want a particular show time, they can still wait in the standby line. Disney doesn't have FP so that no one ever waits for anything. You have to pick and choose the priorities and wait for everything else if you still want to experience that attraction.

Do you think that people holding the FP will have priority seating over the standby if this holds true? I'm assuming so.

The more planning that's required in my day, the less I like it. I like deciding what I'm doing as the day unfolds. It feels like with the changes in FP, and the FP's for non rides, Disney is moving in the 'more planning' direction.

With F! and WOC the FP are required to see the show from the general viewing areas. I didn't say anything about not waiting, just mentioning that FP+ may allow people to choose specific show times as it does at WDW. It's one small benefit of this potential change.

I think that's one of the main differences between DL lovers and WDW lovers. DL people don't really plan as much because we've never needed to. WDW I'm going in 109 days and I'm stressing over a schedule for which park on which day.
