We are going to WDW on October 5. When can I sign up for Fastpasses? Also, I need to have the My Disney Experience linked to my reservation, correct?

Is there a clock or a reminder that I can sign up for that will remind me when my window begins?

Thank you!

Yes, you need have the numbers from either the actual tickets or ticket vouchers loaded into your MDE account and assigned to those in your party in order to be able to booko FPs.

I've never seen any clock/reminder when your window opens, but frequent visits here to DISboards will keep your mind on it so you won't forget. :D

Maybe you could program an alarm in your cell phone or something, for FP day. And remember to get on there at exactly 7 am on FP day to get the good ones, and try for the hardest to get first. This last trip, Disney emailed me the day before my FP day to remind me, but I don’t remember them having ever done this before, so not sure if they do that regularly or what.

Yes you must have tickets linked to your MDE and your resort reservation linked to your MDE in order to get the 60 day booking window.
No clocks.
Just set yourself a reminder of the day on your phone's calendar and remember the window opens at 7am eastern.

If you’re staying on site, you can get FP+ 60 days in advance of your check in date. If staying off site, you can get FP+ 30 days before. You need your tickets linked to your account to get FP+ and you need your hotel reservation to get FP+ 60 days in advance (I highly recommend that you make sure to get the 60 day window- a couple rides will not have FP+ available at 30 days). Do the best to remember to get your FP+. You could set a reminder on your phone or something like that. When we had a reservation to stay on site a couple years ago, we did get a letter in the mail with information on it and it reminded us when we could get Fastpasses but don’t rely on that.

Disney sends a cute little book to you after you make your reservations with all the important dates. Make sure all your people are linked up if they have their own accounts or if not that they exist in the system as your family.
I set a reminder in my phone too!
6:45 - boot up computer
6:50 brew tea
6:55 get to web page and review printout of color coded excel itinerary for crazy people
7:00 GO!
7:30 - email boss and blame my late arrival on a train delay
