Sorry to ask this, since I believe it has been asked before. In regards to the watermice(I think that is what they are called, the mini 2 person water boats), what locations has the fastest ones?

Thanks for the help.

the fastest ones are at the contmporary and polynesian. I know it was much easier to drive in these places because there is more wide open spaces too and you can see the castle and all the hotels around the contemporary! i loved it!

swshgrl#20 - I've heard the ones at the Poly are faster, but exploring all the canals and going down to OKW and POR & POFQ from the Marketplace is my favorite! Seems like you are on the water all by yourself. If you haven't rented them at the Marketplace, it's fun to do sometime - to get a comparison.

Can anyone rent these or do you have to be a guest at that particular resort? (We will be staying at the Doubletree Suites.)

Also, how much are they, are there age restrictions (kids are 4 and 6) and how long do you get them for?

Thanks!!

going to WDW 4/1-4/8/2006 :cool1:

no, you do not have to be a guest at that or any other WDW property to rent them. just be sure to have a valid ID with you, as you must be 18 to rent one. (only 12 and 5 ft tall to drive them, but have to be 18 to rent them.)

The boats are rented in 30 minute- or one-hour increments, with a slight price break for taking the hour. The 30-minute rental is around $22, and the hour is just a bit over $30. I am not sure about a min age or weight. I do remember my son at 5 going on with my husband and DS at the time was VERY short and light for his age.

note - if you are an AP holder, you can get an AP discount for these. Also, if you plan to rent these alot during your trip there are family or captain's rental plans available that are well worth the money if you or the group you are going with would use them quite a bit. We got it the last time we stayed at the Fort as DS was a freak for these things and we used one about every day since we were right there at the resort with the marina.

Don't get one at the BC/YC/BW/S/D. Crescent lake is so small that they put extremely slow engines on the watermice. I used one at the YC back in '05. It was quite a letdown.

FYI, reason being, all the "fast" boats are on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon, BUT you must have a Valid Drivers License to rent at these locations. Meanwhile, at Bayside Marina, you only have to be 12 years of age and reach a specific height. If Disney was to put the fast boats at all locations, no younger teens and pre-teens would be allowed to drive.

It has nothing to do with the fact that in Crescent Lake, you are more likely to stir up a wake that would hit the boats since the lake is so much smaller?

I would say that this is not a large concern, the water mice make a small wake compared to the friendship boats, and then you still have Breathless churning up the lakes too.

So these are only for 2 people? I was hoping they'd let us bring our 18M ds. Do you think they'll let me hold him in my lap providing he has a life jacket on? I sure hope so. Those little boats look like fun. We're staying at CBR.

Are theones at CBR fast? Or is it worthwhile to go to POLY and rent?

Go over to the Poly because there, you can ride in the Seven Seas Lagoon, which is huge, and Bay Lake, which is also huge. You don't have nearly as much room in the CBR lake...or do you? I haven't been there in a while.

I would guess though that the Poly lake is bigger

Our favorite is the Poly. But, make sure you get more then 1/2 hour. By the time you go from the Poly and behind the Contemporary it eats up most of your time! An hour is about the right amount of time for us.

Also - they used to have a package deal that got you unlimited use of the boats during your stay! Check in to that!

These must be what my sons were talking about on our trip in 1997. Disney had the package deal back then where your room, meals (up to $55/day), parks & rentals (bikes, boats) were all on your room key. My son who was 15 then was able to drive them but not sure if someone had to be 18. He was asking me this weekend if they still included it with the package. Thanks for giving the update on prices everyone! (are they also available at the Boardwalk where we will be staying?)

So at Bayside Marina my 14 and 15 year old sons would be allowed to go out on these boats or do they need a parent with them....I would love to do this but my husband and I would both need to take one of our daughters on a boat with each of us......

The best is from the Contemporary (IMO). If you have a larger family, rent the larger boat. My ds was only 4 months on his first boat ride. We were able to push his stroller right on. Adults only need to have life vests, not wear them. You can also bring on sodas and snacks.

There's a 5 person and a larger maybe 10 person boat. It doesn't go great speeds, but with little ones you don't want that. My dh was 3 on his first speed boat. He came off and said he did't like that ride.

It's one of the best things to do. You can literally drive right in front of the castle. You can get a great picture of the train station with the castle behind it.
