I havent read alot about FPs since we are going in late January and im thinking we prob wont need them because of crowds being low. Am I wrong in thinking this?

I don't know about late January, but we were at WDW the second week of January this year and we only needed a FP once -- for Soarin'. We went early and rode with no line and took a FP for later, so we could ride again.

We really enjoy going in January. We are going again in '07 - same week.

If the crowds are low, many FP attractions will simply not be issuing them.

But on certain attractions (EE, Soarin', Test Track and Space Mtn., etc.), they usually DO have the FP machines open, and it can be fun to take a FP just as you enter the Standby line, or as leave the ride, and enjoy it a second time, a bit later (the return time will be about an hour or so, many times.)

Off-season times offer many possibilities not always practical during "on-season."

We were there in January and they came in handy a few times. Dumbo didn't have them, coulda used them. BTMRR we used them. Didn't need them for Soarin when we went. Did use them for space mountain and the jungle cruise. I don't think they were absolutely necessary but they helped us at some peak times (we actually got some for our entire party from guest services for any time on any ride, some pixie dust they gave us). We were also there on MLK weekend so it will probably be even slower when you go.

We have gone every January from the middle of the month to the first week in February, and you wont need a FP for most rides. Some rides will most likely have the fast pass machines covered up. Rides we have needed them for in the past in late January...

Expedition Everest in AK
Safari in AK
Soarin' in Epcot
Test Track in Epcot
Peter Pan in MK

and depending on the day.. weekend, or a showing of Spectro, or something like that, you MIGHT need a FP on

Space Mtn
Splash Mtn
BTMRR
Rock n ROller coaster
Tower of Terror

January is a great time to go. I think we might try Disneyland this January!!

At that time of year, I consider the FPs a free soveniur for scrapbooking.

We used them quite regularly this past January. I guess it depends how much time you actually want to stand in line. For us, we didn't want to wait 15-20 minutes in line. Soarin' especailly had lines that were a 90 minute wait - definitely FastPass this. Also, Kiliminjaro Safaris was busy (I don't think they have as many vehicles running that time of year). Also needed them for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. Also, the line at Pooh was pretty long all day except at opening when we rode it. All of the FastPass machines (except Star Tours) were open during the day, but usually by mid afternoon, they were closed - especially in the MK.

It all depends on the attractions you want to do. Soarin and RNR we get a FP since the wait is pretty long for January - about 20 minutes or so. ToT we walk on 3 times in a row without any problems, Test Track we just stay strapped into the seat and go again on the most part - sometimes they get a surge and we have to walk thru but it's a 5 min wait - not including the pre-movie. Other MK and EPCOT attractions - NEVER a problem. On the most part if you want to be safe grab a FP - but do you NEED one - nope!

OMG, January is going to rock. I thought the October crowds were low last year! I can't wait for January! :)
