Fast passes for Shades of Green

We are planning a trip to Disney World in March 2018. I've heard if I also reserve a Disney resort and Shades that I can book my fast passes 60 days out and then cancel the Disney resort reservation. I want to make sure that I won't lose my fast passes when I cancel the Disney resort reservation. Also, will I have a penalty for cancelling the reservation?

As far as using Shades of Green for this purpose - unless Disney changed things recently, people staying at Shades of Green could not book fastpasses earlier than 30 days ahead of time. You may want to check the Shades of Green discussion thread to find out for sure.

If you just want to book a room so that can get fp's at 60 days out then book a Disney resort. Shades of Green isn't owned by Disney.

The thread is alive and thriving. It doesn't make sense to me, since I think it is a loop hole and not be allowed.
