Fast Pass + Question

Totally don't understand the whole Fast Pass + process! Do u need to buy your park tickets in advance of your trip in order to make attraction reservations? Or can u just input your hotel reservation number? What site do I use to plan this all out? I heard that u can only sign up for certain attractions based on a tiered system. Does this apply to all 4 parks? Where can I find a list of the tiered attractions? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

You need to have park admission linked to MDE in order to make FP+ selections.
