Our last trip to DL was in May 2013. At that time, it was nearly impossible to obtain a FP for Radiator Springs Racers. I had to enter the park early with EMH and wait in line for the regular park opening. For example, I arrived at 8:30 AM and the park opened at 9 AM.

At 8:30 the line was crazy-long -- in a twisting queue past Carthay Circle. I had no problem obtaining 3 FPs -- I think the return time was around 10:50 AM but I did have to wait in line for nearly 40 minutes.:hourglass

We will return to DL for 4 nights in December (13-17):

What is this attraction like now?
What is the best time/strategy to obtain a FP for this attraction?
When do FPs sell out/close for this attraction?

Thanks for your advice!

We were there last week. Park opened at 9:00 am. We were there before opening and went straight to TSMM, Screaming and TOT. After riding those three we pulled FP's for RSR at 10:00 am with a return time of 2:30-3:30. That was earlier than RideMax was predicting ...they predicted pulling FP at 10:00 would = a return time of 6:00-7:00.

I have a very similar experience to you--last time I was in DL was June 2013 & it was just as crazy, and I am going again next month.

So I don't know first hand, but based of what I've heard (from here, podcasts, etc), it's not as bad now. I mean, I would still make obtaining an FP a priority, but I don't think it's as crucial to be there for EMH and make a beeline straight to the FP line. I think I've heard that the FP's run out in the afternoon (2-4ish) whereas they used to run out by 10am.

But this is all speculation based on what I've heard so I'm anxious to hear what other people who have been there recently have to say :)

We were there over Labor Day weekend this year. On the Friday morning we went to DCA for rope drop (there was EE that day, but we weren't staying onsite so didn't have it - we just entered at the normal time). We went straight to TSM, waited about 20 minutes, rode that, then pretty much walked onto Screamin'. That whole area was nice and quiet, and it was a stress-free enjoyable start to the day. After that, we made our way to the RSR FPs, via a PP photographer who spent a few minutes getting us to do different poses etc. We pulled our FPs about an hour after the park opened with no line at all, and got a return time around 3pm (I can't remember what the window was now).

I highly recommend doing it that way rather than fighting the crowds to get there straight away and having to line up to get your FP.

While I admit that this is good advice to hit the other rides and not worry about the hassle, it's very difficult for me to just walk past the main attraction! Call me a lemming, but I feel like I have to rush to RSR first!

I agree, especially when it's the main attraction for our family and DS6 begging to ride it NOW! We will try wide right this year :)

This year around June DCA changed the whole RSR FP system. FPs previosly were disconnected. Now they are connected. It appears that previously they gave out less FPs per day. Now they are giving out more.

Bottom line is FPs last much longer into the day. Queueing for FP durign EMH, etc., is no longer necessary. FPs last for 3-5 hours each day.
