The constant complaining by people over the new FP system is overblown. I have done several trip plan scenarios for friends this year and at no time, regardless of time of year, was I not able to get the FPs they requested. I have even done them within 30 days and still had zero issues. If you read how it works and just plan it out, it works absolutely fine. People hate change and will complain just to complain, even when they had not even tried it themselves. Mob mentality that because others said so it must be that bad. Reality is, the system works just fine if you plan it right.
I'm very happy for you that the system has worked well for you each time you've used it, truly.
I wish it had worked that well for me. On both trips I planned last year (one for us, one for a friend), we were unable to get the most popular FP+ (A&E, SDMT), even being online at midnight at 60 days. The only way I got FP+ for A&E on my and my friend's trip was a cancellation thread on the DIS (and yes, I checked the app frequently, did try to do one at a time and overlap times, etc). I read mesaboy's thread, knew all the tips and tricks. I "planned it right" every step of the way. There was just plain no availability, even at midnight at 60 days. Seeing the patterns repeating this year, I chalk that up to the combinations of shorter hours in November and parties closing MK early a few nights a week. It appears those have a significant effect on FP+ availability that isn't experienced at other times of year when there are no parties and hours are longer.
Now, to be *very* clear, this did not "break" either trip in any way. I kept searching and searching and did manage to get A&E and SDMT for both trips in the end. We had excellent experiences once we were actually in the parks. However, that does not change that availability was an issue and it took a LOT of work and searching to get all of the FP+ that were requested. That is just what our experience was. It isn't overblown or exaggerated in any way, it just was what it was.
As I said, I'm very happy for you that you have not had such issues with the system. I wish everyone could have as easy of an experience as you have had.
