Farrell's Ice Cream is BACK!! A must-do on DLR trip!!

I too have wonderful memories of many birthday parties at Farrells.....and have definitely got this place on my list of must dos when we're at DL Grad Nite in June.

BUT......ya'll are aware that you can get some great ice cream....including one called "The Kitchen Sink" right there at PCH Grill. 10 scoops of ice cream, every topping they have and a full can of whipped cream for around $25. Not quite as big as the Pig Trough, but a great fun stop without having to leave DL property. (WDW has The Kitchen Sink at the Beaches and Cream too).

I look forward to trying out Farrells again, though so thanks for sharing!

I worked at Farrell’s for several years while in High School and College – some of the best memories of my life. I even spent one summer in Hawaii working at Farrell’s. :)

Many fond memories of Farrell's. They had one in our local mall when I was a kid and I had MANY a birthday there. We got the zoo one time and I loved collecting the little plastic animals. Loved all the music and the sirens and drums they played when it was a birthday. SO fun!

Didnt you know there is one in Santa Clarita near Magic Mountain??? Its been there forever.

How long has it been there? All Farrels closed down in the late 80's except for 2 or 3. Then the last remaining was in the San Diego area I believe until the early 2000's. But that one was a far cry from the original style. When it closed one opened in Mission Viejo and the others I had thought opened more recently with Brea opening only a few months ago. You mean there was a Farrells near MM when I was there a few years ago and I missed it??? lol

firstly let me say that I had no idea PCH grill had the kitchen sink...they have the very same thing at Beaches and Cream at The Beach Club in wdw...so yay for that one....but I have to say there was NOTHING like the pig trough...no amount of ice cream in the world can compare:rotfl:

I have dozens of childhood memories of birthday parties at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors in the Portland area. I'm excited to take a little time from our September trip to DLR to take my son to Farrell's for his 10th birthday!

I keep reading rumors of Farrell's coming back to Portland, but this will be a good fix for now :)

thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!

I went out to their website and realized there is one on Oahu, too! I'm going to the Aulani resort next month, and since I have a rental car, you can bet that I will be going there at least once.

Hope they still have the Tin Roof Sundae!

oh they do:)

speaking of Farrell's....they have this item on the dessert menu called a "fake chicken dinner" its sooooo cool...I found a article that shows a pic of it and describes it in detail...its yummy!!....hehehe

Warning: For better or for worse, Internet descriptions lead me to believe the two Kitchen Sinks are a bit different from each other.

http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_pch.htm
The Whole PCH Grill & Kitchen Sink - Ten Scoops of Ice Cream...then tell us what you don't want on it. $21.99

http://allears.net/menu/menu_bc.htm
Kitchen Sink - Eight Scoops of Ice Cream served with all the Toppings in the house and a whole can of Whipped Cream $23.99

I've read Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews that make it sound like the cookies, brownies, baked-good whatnots are a bit different between the two, too.

Although the time and effort to drive to and eat at Farrell's must be accounted for, their menu indicates that their 8-scoop Pig's Trough is only $11.99.
Besides, I'm pretty sure Farrell's and their PT was the inspiration for Napolean and the Ziggy Piggy scene in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." :goodvibes:

Yeah...I said it wasn't as big as the pig trough....but hey, all that ice cream, yum no matter where!

Looked it up and it appears the MM Farrells opened in 2003. The SD one must have closed shortly after that. That makes the MM one the first of the new Farrells to open. The kids want to go to MM bad but its too hot there in the summer so may have to wait...but Farrells there will be a stop!

This really shows my ignorance. I always thought Farrell's was a Sacramento company and that they shut down due to an airport accident. I had no idea they were all over. I think we may have to stop at the Magic Mountain one next time we go down.

I remember when that plane crash happened at the one by the Executive airport. That was SO sad and I think the people sued because they said they should not have built it so close to the airport. I never went to that one but to the one at Sunrise Mall. I really missed it and when I moved to Vancouver I went to the one in Portland a few times and was sad to hear it had closed when we went there last summer.

SO excited to try this one on our june trip as my girls have never been!!

I live just around the corner from the Brea Farrell's. Weekends and all evenings are very busy (line out the door, at least 1+ hour wait), but if you go early afternoon on a weekday, the wait is very short. I went with my son a few weeks after it opened and it brought back lots of fun memories.

It's located in the redeveloped downtown Brea area, which is a great place to stroll and shop. There's a movie theater (Edwards), Starbucks, clothing stores, CostPlus (love that store!), and other restaurants (Bruxie, Melting Pot, and more). Fun way to spend a few hours. There's a nice little Farmer's Market too (Tuesdays 4-8pm).

We had a Farrell's in our town til hmmm...maybe late 90s? Way after others shut down. They suddenly changed their name one day, and I heard it was because the local owners had kept the Farrell's name all this time without permission, and were finally ordered not to use it, so they changed to Pearl St Ice Cream Parlor. It now is an Italian restaurant, and I'm very excited for the chance to get back to Farrell's on our trip. My favorite was always the vanilla ice cream with pitchers of hot fudge and a cup of malt powder on the side.

well let me be the first to warn you...it is NOT an easy place to find...we drove around and around and around the first time to get to it...its not like fwy access or anything...its located in this warehouse type place and its connected to a arcade of sorts...its very small for being a Farrell's but they have the same menu...my suggestion would be to call them when you are close to Santa Clarita and ask them to give you directions from the 5....otherwise you are going to go crazy:faint::)

Thank you so much!!! I love Farrell's. We are going to DL in June, I can't wait to take my kids there. Something else to look forward to!!!!!
