This is for anyone old enough to remember Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors that were popular across the USA in the 1970's and early 80's. They're back! One opened a few months ago 8 miles away from Disneyland in Brea.

We stopped by on our last Disneyland trip and it was just like I remember from my youth. Singing, joking and crazy staff are tons of fun. All the ice cream favorites are back such as the pigs trough...8 scoop banana split. If your group eats it, the staff will be sure to embarrass you (we had to stand on seats and yell out that we're pigs!!). Farrells was and still is one of the best old fashioned ice cream parlors around and makes for a great side stop on a Disneyland visit.

We tried to go on a Saturday afternoon but there was a long 1hr line outside to get in. We returned mid-week and there was no line.

Wow! I have many fond memories of Farrell's. Those pig troughs were one big melty ice cream mess...but lots of fun. Glad to hear they're back. :)

Thanks for the info! I Love Farell's Ice Cream Parlor, growing up we would going get ice cream every Friday night. Can't wait to take my wife and kids!

I love Farrell's! So exciting. Total flashback to what a treat it was when we went to Seattle when I was a child and we'd get to go. Very exciting for this Montana girl.

Can't tell you how excited I was when they announced the Brea Farrell's location. I live just a couple miles away. Was there opening day and was one of the last groups seated before the serious wait began! Just went this past weekend, Saturday at around 1:00pm and our wait was 1 hr (but totally worth it). They also have a walk-up ice cream window, so if you just need a sundae, you can grab one there and eat it on the street (they have a couple tables, plus there are benches along the Brea Promenade). But, it's so much better to go inside for all the atmosphere. It's exactly, precisely like it was in the 1970's. Great stuff! They also have locations further away from DLR in Mission Viejo (an easy stop on the way to/from San Diego), Rancho Cucamonga, and Valencia.

We are planning to take the kids to the Mission Viejo Farrell's on the way back from Legoland. It will be a Saturday night aroun 7pm -- anybody know what type of wait we are in for?

So excited to take DS and DD....they have never been to a Farrell's before!

Thanks for the heads-up! I've always been a little sad that I couldn't take my kids here. Some really cool childhood memories.

I use to love going to Farrells for "the zoo". I grew up in Davis, California and we would drive to the one in Sacramento. I will never forget that.

Thanks for the information.

When we were there in March a family ordered the Zoo. They brought it out on a large wood plank carried by two staff members. We were told its 6 lbs of ice cream, then all the toppings. Its $49 and looked massive.

Oh my gosh! Really?!??!

Farrell's was THE place we went to following musicals and plays at our High School. We would close the place down.
Where did you go on your wedding night? My DH & I went to Farrell's! We were starving since we didn't eat at our reception, plus we didn't want to go to our place (we weren't leaving until morning for our honeymoon) right away for fear we might be followed. Do you know that when we told our server we just got married she didn't believe us at first. Who goes to Farrell's on their wedding night?!? We do and we still have the glass mug (and its been over 31 years!) to show for it!

Hope they return to Seattle!

That is so cool!
We had one here in suburb of Vancouver where I grew up in the 70s
So many great memories!

Farrell's?? FARRELL'S?!? :hyper: I'm so excited!!! Like a pp said, I too have always been so sad that I couldn't share such a big part of my childhood with my son. I so hope we can do this when we go to DLR in October!

Farrell's was THE place for birthdays when we were little... You younger parents now think Chuck E Cheese is loud on a weekend? They don't hold a candle to the pandemonium of a Farrell's birthday, with the sirens and the sparklers and whatnot. It was pure awesome. :)

OMG! I grew up going to a Farrell's every year for my birthday! We went to one in San Jose! I remember wearing my plaid pants and huge collard shirt with my pig tails tied in yarn (hey, it was the 70's!) standing on the table while they sang me happy birthday! :cake:

That is so neat! Glad you had fun!

You just completely made my day!!! That was my favorite place as a kid! DD will go nuts over it!!! I'm even more excited because there is one right on our way between Disneyland and San Diego at The Shops at Mission Viejo, so I know where we will be going for lunch that day!!!

OMGOSH SO MUCH FUN!!!! The ice cream memories are there but....the candy store jumps up pretty fast in my mind..remember the barrels of candy..my FAV the root beer barrels....:mickeybar:tink:

Thank you for sharing! I am 41 and have happy memories of Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor. Going down at the end of May, will have to try and make a visit! :)

thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!

I went out to their website and realized there is one on Oahu, too! I'm going to the Aulani resort next month, and since I have a rental car, you can bet that I will be going there at least once.

Hope they still have the Tin Roof Sundae!

wow Im really surprised at all this excitement over Farrell's...I mean not Farrell's itself because I grew up going there all the time...but for those of you who drive to DL from Nor Cal and central valley?? Didnt you know there is one in Santa Clarita near Magic Mountain??? Its been there forever...not the BEST location but its passable...now at least those who dont do the drive that way can go because its really near to DL:goodvibes
