it does cost coins to upgrade your farm and you can do it at any time. It also requires a specific number of neighbors. Here is what I think are the costs:

14x14: 10,000 coins, minimum 8 neighbors
16x16: 25,000 coins, minimum 10 neighbors
18x18: 50,000 coins, unsure what neighbor requirement is
20x20: 75,000 coins, unsure what neighbor requirement is

You have to upgrade in order, you can't go immediately to 20x20. You spend the 10,000 coins, then the 25,000 coins, etc.

Gina - You have to buy it using real money. I'd love to buy some of those things, but I refuse to spend real money on them. Of course I spend it on lots of other silly things, but that just isn't something I am willing to do.

Well that stinks... no WAY would I ever spend real money for fake money to buy pretend things!

We've occasionally noticed coins floating across the screen while doing plowing, seeding, etc. Anyone know what that's all about?

About the gold coin--supoosedly you earn 100 coins every time one appears.

Just Started up with Farmville this week. I am only on level 4 but am looking for neighbors if anyone is up. Today i am just growing strawberries for some quick cash since I will be home and can harvest them on time. If anyone needs more neighbors just send a PM!

Me too definately addicted hahahaha. What's really funny is that I have a real farm lol. I told a friend the other day that I had bought a new tractor and she said "oh cool" then she says "wait in real life? or on Farmville???" hahahahahahahaha
