Farmers almanac september 2015? Hearing two diff things on the weather

ok good. I actually find it unpleasant when it is below 70 so I'm glad to hear the temp will be warm enough for shorts and a tank and some sunblock.

I hated going in November last year and the high hit 70!

I don't mind the rain monsoons as long as they last for less than an hour so here's to crossing my fingers on that! Going in August it actually got us to take the time to walk through the shops without feeling like we missed something

If you've been in August you've pretty much seen what you are going to get. Slight chance of less rain/humidity, but not much.

A high of 70 in November sounds like heaven to me!

Sunblock isn't just for hot weather. You should always wear it when you're spending time outside.

Ok. I live here (about 75 miles due west of WDW) and can tell you that Sept is NOT cool by any means. It's very hot and very humid. It doesn't start to "cool off" until the end of Oct beginning of Nov here.
You can expect day time high's near 90 and night time lows in the upper 70's maybe the high 60's.
Afternoon T-storms are a given and yes it does rain almost everyday for about 30 min. You can time it to be some where between 3-7 everyday. It is extremely rare that it rains all day or night anytime of the year here. It does happen but it's not typical. It is the sunshine state after all. ;)
Bring ponchos just in case or plan a long late lunch or early dinner to avoid the storms. You usually can see them building in the sky.

Oct is still way warm enough to swim. Rain is still an if-y thing and sometimes you'll get a little more night time rain than in Sept.

Yup-- and when you do, you have about 10 to 15 minutes. When you feel a strong cold wind out of no where, you have about 3 minutes.

That strong cold wind is a dead giveaway. Run for the nearest shelter.

True...it was mostly just a joke. Except I believe a lot of people abuse sunblock and that is why there is so much vitamin D deficiancies in the U.S. But that's a different story.

Actually, we joke about the Farmer's Almanac, but truth is there is no reliable long-term predictions (like accuweather 15 day forecasts). Most of them are based on history, and therefore they are all essentially "guesses".

What I find to be a good place to look is the weather underground Travel Planner.

http://www.wunderground.com/travelplanner/index.asp

You type in the location you are going to and the range of days. It then goes back over the last 15 years and looks at the weather on those days. It gives you averages plus the

For instance, if I pick Orlando FL and September 20-27th, I will see the average high for the last 15 years was 87, the average low 73, and 66 out of 120 days were considered "rainy".

Then you can scroll down further and look at each individual week for the last 15 years. For instance, last year that week saw over 4 inches of rain across 6 of the 8 days, in 2011 and 2012 the rain that week was < 0.5 inches with only 2 or 3 rainy days. This doesn't so much forecast it, but it does give you an idea what sort of range of weather weeks you might expect to get.

The nice thing is it works for anytime and anywhere, not just WDW.

I live in central Florida, and what everyone else says here is correct. One thing is certain. It will be hot. You will sweat. A lot. If the Bermuda High is in place, then the rains will come like clockwork. This is due to the prevailing winds from the east coast bumping into the seabreeze from the west coast. Mix in a lot of hot, soupy air, and boom, instant thunderstorm.(lots of lightning) They'll build up along the eastern/central part of the state, and roll over to the west coast as the day goes on. So, even checking the radar while you are out at Disney does no good, because many times, they are developing right over you. Now, if the Bermuda High is not in place, then all bets are off. That could allow a cold front to push through in late September(no cold will come with it, but a chance of all day rain will). An out of place high may also shift the rains into a west to east pattern if the seabreeze from the west coast is stronger than the one from the east.

September is also the middle of hurricane season, but predictors are pretty good now a days, and you'll know if central Florida is going to get rain from it a couple days out. The plus side to this, is, after a tropical system has moved through, it will take all the moisture with it, giving you a day or two of breezy, dry days.(Still hot, though) Just hope that Disney is still there.

That's a great resource... Thanks.

And to be honest... If you're not sitting on your head - the last 15 years is all you should use as an Indicator...because the weather patterns are shifting with more frequency and recent data bears far more weight than they normally would have.

The reason for that is obvious too... And I'm "not a scientist"

Hi
We are going 3rd week in September. I read and thought it was really hot mid 80s to low 90s
A friend said she's gone around that time and it was too cold to swim and usually colder in late sept

Wow, when did this friend say she went??? Born and raised in the deep south and I've sure never seen that?? :confused3

Be sure that it's very hot and humid in Sept. True, it's one of the big months for hurricanes, also can rain a lot, but that's dependent on the actual year - can vary.

I lived there for 6 years and never had that happen in Sept. It's always hot and humid, rains most if not all afternoons unless the day starts out with rain.

January, thats a completely different story.

In 2008 we went in August. We missed 4 straight days of downpour rain (thanks to Ernesto I think), and it was still pouring when we got there that night. The next day it was beautiful, and it stayed that way for about 3 days. The back to the rain and crap.

One thing we try to do is be at the pool in the afternoon. If the rains that roll in are not thunderstorms, there's no better place to be during a storm. The thing I find amusing is that when it starts to rain, everybody at the pool runs for their rooms. We just stay in the pool (again, barring lightning), what better place to get wet.
We're going back in August this year. You have to accept the weather. Either it will be awful, or it will be really awful.

That IS confusing! no wonder!

mid 80's low 90's is mild...warm...maybe "kind of hot" with the humidity.

Of course, that's a Texan way of looking at it...where Sept temps can often still be close to 100.

Another Texas says AMEN...and who knows. I just don't feel like September Florida weather would be anywhere close to "to cold to swim". :confused3 We've been in October and only needed light jackets for DGD's and that was when they were 3/4/5 years old. :tink:

This is an El Nino year, so the weather is actually a little off from what's typical. When we were there a few weeks ago, we found it much cooler than usual. We actually spent a day shivering at Typhoon Lagoon, but it got into the 70's right after a storm. But it was still upper 80's daily--though I don't consider that "hot" for Orlando in August. You're a little more likely to encounter storms that aren't of the "afternoon heat" variety. We had to miss our Busch Gardens day because they closed for flooding. But you are also less likely to experience a hurricane, as they are fewer in most El Nino seasons.

Short answer? Go to Disney, expect heat and rain. :jester:

I prefer to dig up an old copy of Poor Richard's Almanac. It is just as accurate.

Looks like there's been an above average amout of rain this summer in Orlando. Wonder if that's a good or bad thing for September???

Well, for the number of mosquitoes in the air it will be a bad thing.

We went last year in the beginning of October and it was Humid and Hot (mid 90's) the first few days, but everyday the temp dropped by a degree or two and so did the humidity or maybe I got use to it. Everyday was great and still warm enough to use the pools and the waterparks, it only rained one night that I can recall on our 9 day stay.

This year we will be going the last week of September and I am hoping for the same experience, weather wise. :sunny:
