I have been looking forward to the release of Farenheit 911 so when I went over to our local Blockbuster yesterday to rent it ...I was a little surprised....first, I couldn't find it....I looked on the wall where all new releases are usually displayed --- not there...I looked around a little bit more and didn't even see copies of it for sale...finally I asked the clerk behind the counter if he had put out the 911 tapes yet and he said they were all they way in the back (no coincidence no doubt)....I wasn't really disturbed by this, but the red flag went up when I checked out....He took the tapes and rang me up and then handed them to me and with a smile said "Don't buy into all the hype....don't start getting hysterical and crying over this." (I'm sure he wasn't talking about the Scooby Doo tape I also rented for my son to watch). I was in a hurry to pick up my son from school and just smiled and left....but it really started bothering me....when I got to my son's school, I recounted the incident to some of the moms waiting oustide... particularly the part where the guy said "Don't buy into all the hype." I jokingly said to the other moms that I suppose I should have responded by saying to the clerk "not to buy into all the hype that this administration has been feeding us for the past four years." Then one of the moms who appeared shocked and dismayed said "Well, that's very opinionated of you." Talk about a bunch of crap...the Blockbuster guy can verbally attack me when I rent a movie, but if I have a response to HIS OPINION then I'm "opinionated".....the area where my son goes to school is primarily Republican in nature, so I'm not surprised about the comment...What surprises me is that it seems like we've all become so politically correct about not stating our opinions that we have become paralyzed.....I don't think I was being outspoken, but was just making an illustration about how wrong this schmuck at Blockbuster was for "warning" me about the evil Michael Moore and his "message." I still didn't get a chance to watch it (even with all the complaining I just did!)

How do you get from "with a smile said 'Don't buy into all the hype....don't start getting hysterical and crying over this.' " to "verbally attacking?" Sounds like the Blockbuster guy was adding a little editorial comment -- and buying into a little anti-F9/11 hype of his own. But "verbally attacking?" He didn't rant and rave, or forbid you from renting it, or try to get you to rent a pro-Bush tape too, did he? He didn't put a Bush/Cheney button in your bag or ask you why you don't support our President. He smiled and made a flip comment.

You said that you didn't feel you were being outspoken by stating your opinion to the other moms. The Blockbuster guy probably didn't think he was being outspoken by the comment he made either.

Do you live in Louisiana? I am surrounded by Republicans. Guess I bought into the hype way before that movie was released. God forbid that you should have an opinion, you're only human. Your post makes me think of a scene from one of my favorite films "you've got mail". You know Meg Ryan's character admits to her Tom Hanks character over an email that she is always shocked when someone makes an off comment to her and doesn't know what to say when it happens, then a few hours after the incident she think of a response. His comment would've thrown me off to but not moreso than those republican moms that you've encounter, sounds like they had there own opinions and were trying to push them off on you. Can't wait for Nov. 2 to be over and done with.

That movie is crap anyways. You wasted your money unless you are doing comparative research on propaganda films.

This would be your opinion. Its funny and moving at times. I'm willing to bet you didn't even see it.

Farenheit 9/11 is a great movie, I'm going to buy it next week when I get paid again. I'm going to have a little viewing party for my family members I think. Perhaps then those who aren't planning on voting will get upset and get out there and vote. Oh and i'm pretty sure the guy at Blockbuster was out of line in criticizing the movie, doesn't look good to discourage business. IMO you should send Blockbuster an email about their opinionated employess potentially influencing customer spending. Corporate America doesn't take too kindly to that type of thing if you know what I mean.

\Fop\, n. [OE. foppe, fop, fool; cf. E. fob to cheat, G. foppen to make a fool of one, jeer, D. foppen.] One whose ambition it is to gain admiration by showy dress; a coxcomb; an inferior dandy.

You would lose that bet you Fop.
How does that make him a fop? I get that you're going for an insult here, but considering that the designation of "fop" is based mostly -- almost exclusively -- on wardrobe, and a computer discussion board is the one place where you can't even remotely see what someone is wearing while you're chatting with them, that makes no sense whatsoever! And why would "fop" deserve to be capitalized? It's not a proper noun.

"You would lose that bet, you lily-livered liberal" would have been much more topical. :p

I won't give one cent or my time to Micheal Moore and his movie. Smart kid at Blockbuster. He dosen't need to have an e-mail sent about his opinion. He can say what he wants just like anyone else in the world. Micheal Moore did.

Seems to me that YOU'RE the one who's being intolerant of others expressing THEIR opinions. Maybe you should try to be a little more open-minded and allow others to state their opinions freely, without worrying whether YOU think it meets YOUR definition of "politically correct".

That is true, an old definition of fop can mean a foolish or silly person.

Now back to your discussion on the propeganda of Farenheit 911.

Fahrenheit 9/11 is easily the best film in recent history. Do you think if you would have rented "The Passion" that the desk jockey would have told you not to buy into all the "Christian" hype and not to cry or anything?

I have problems with another homeschooling mom I know sending me all of her Republican political e-mail. I guess I'll have to confront the spammer pretty soon.

Sorry to confuse everyone. A fop can also mean "a fool".

Oy.

I did not see Farenheit 911 in the theatre, but did rent it from netflix -- it should be at my house any day. I guess the guy at the videostore has a right to his opinion, but I can't imagine why a perfect stranger would feel the need to tell you about it. I'd have thanked him for his opinion and told him I'd decide for myself, after I watched the movie. :)

Easily the best film in recent history? Easily? Really? Easily? Better than Forrest Gump? Better than American Beauty? Better than Titanic? Better that LOTR? Better than Gladiator? Really? Easily? Really?
