We almost always sail in a party of six. Three staterooms, with two people in each. As such, we aren't familiar with what a third person in a stateroom usually costs.

Is there a rule of thumb - like, the third person's fare is 50% of Passenger 1/Passenger 2's respective fare? Or to put it another way, if the fare for Passengers 1 & 2 is $5,000 (@ $2,500), will the fare for Passenger 3 be roughly $1,250?

If that is accurate, does it matter if the third person is a kid or an adult?

Thank you!

3rd+ person children cost less than adults.

Good to know. Thanks.

So, again, is there a "cowboy-math" way to estimate what adding a kid as third passenger would cost in relation to Passenger 1/Passenger 2?

I don’t believe it’s a flat percentage. There almost seems to be a 3rd person fare maybe by broader category (verandah, oceanview, interior) but i’m not entirely positive of that either. I have seen the 3rd person fare remain the same in different categories (I.e, 11A vs 10A) even if the 2 main adult fares differ.

Ages 13-17 are charged as an adult.
Ages 3-12 are charged child fare. This may be a percentage of the 3rd passenger adult fare.
Ages 0-2 are charged roughly 50% of the child fare.

I believe port fees and taxes are the same for all passengers, regardless of age or “position” in the booking.

Enjoy your cruise!

The percentage is definitely not always set in stone. For our 7 night Fantasy, the 3rd, 4th and 5th passenger fare was about half of the first two passenger fares. For our 13 night Magic, the 3rd passenger fare was only about 1/3.

Kids do cost less than adults when they are 3rd/4th passengers etc but not by a substantial amount. Something like $50 over a 7 night cruise.

I think using the 50% figure is probably roughly accurate, but sometimes it's less.

Test it in the DCL website - 3 vs 2. If the prices have gone up since the booking, you'll at least see what sort of difference there is for three vs two.

The last time I was looking at different categories, the 3rd/4th person charge for my kids was the same regardless of an inside cabin/outside cabin/verandah. The 1st/2nd adults changed with categories but not the 3rd /4th person.

Thanks, everyone. I re-ran my cruise today and hypothetical Passenger 3 (kid) was only 35% of the other individual fares. Of course, that is today’s rates vs. the opening day rates I originally booked under.

That’s a useful thing to know, since if you were to add the third passenger to your existing booking now, that’s the fare you would pay for that person. This illustrates the reason to do the original booking for the maximum number of passengers you anticipate in the stateroom, since there’s no penalty if you were to remove a third (or fourth) person from the reservation later. If you have to add someone later, you pay the prevailing rate for the extra person at the time you make that adjustment.

I only travel with my son, so I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but opening day pricing threads may give you a good idea of whether and how variable 3rd person fares are.

For illustration, on our upcoming 3 night in a cat 4A:
Dad: $1062
Mom: $1062
Kid (15): $453
Kid (13): $453
Kid (13): $453

And on our Next summer 12 night Med Cruise
Mom: $4590
Kid (13): $$4590
Kid (13): $2268

So the 3rd person is 42% of the adult charges on the 3 night and 49% of the adult charges on the Med cruise. Med cruise was booked on platinum opening day and the 3 night on a whim outside of the opening day window

Thanks much. Actually, this is not one of those cases.

We have someone who was included on the opening day bookings but now may have to drop. If she does, then it makes sense to cancel one of the three staterooms, and move her Passenger 2 to one of the remaining staterooms as a Passenger 3.

I wonder how DCL will deal with this. It may be moot given that the fare may not have increased much, but I'm guessing that when you cancel stateroom #3, containing guests #5 and #6, then move #5 to stateroom #2... they will still charge today's pricing for #5 to now be the 3rd passenger, even though #5 was previously booked as a guest.

I’ve thought about that. Even if they use prevailing rates instead of opening day rates, I still save a decent bit of cash dropping Stateroom 3, dropping #6, and moving #5 to Stateroom 2.

Are you allowed to move between staterooms at your opening day rates? So move 5 first, leave 6 as a single (with a supplement) and then drop them?

Honestly, I did not even ask my TA which rate #5 was getting when moved/added to stateroom 2 as Passenger 3. I figured it didn’t matter - it was going to be what it was going to be.

In terms of percentages, it turned out to be about 45% of the pro-rata fare for Passengers 1 & 2 on opening day.

How Disney Cruise Line Pricing Works
All cruises are priced based on two adults in the stateroom. So, even if you are one adult traveling with a child, the price is the same as if there were two adults in the stateroom. After the two adult price, the third and fourth passenger in the stateroom are charged a lower rate. If you are traveling alone, DCL will charge you 100% of the second adult's cruise fare (not including port fees and taxes) in addition to the full fare for the first adult.

**NOTE** Teenagers will be Charged adult fares (13-17). Child rates apply to ages 3-12. Children ages 0-2 pay 50% of the child rate.
This does not impact access to areas of the ship that are designated as "18 and over" (like the Spa, Adults only pool, and Palo).
