Hello

My wife and I are cruising on the Fantasy on 2 May. Is there anywhere onboard that shows live sports? I'm a boxing fan and would like to watch Mayweather vs Pacquiao, is it likely to be shown?

Thanks, Rob.

Yes they have a sports bar / O Gills pub, and show live sport, but maybe premium pay per view events might not be shown, you can ask.

At a Glance
Location: Deck 4, Aft and Europa
Designed For: Adults
Hours of Operation: Varies daily; please check the Personal Navigator while onboard for specific times
O'Gills Pub is a spirited Irish bar located on Deck 4, Aft in the Europa district on the Disney Fantasy. Dark woods and brass accents are reminiscent of the friendly neighborhood pubs throughout Ireland—and flat-screen televisions give O'Gills Pub a welcome modern-day twist.

Enjoy a favorite adult beverage, while watching live sporting events in brilliant high-def. Exclusively for Guests ages 18 and older, O'Gills Pub is a great spot for adults to unwind after a fun-filled day, catch the big game and kick off a night exploring the entertainment of Europa.

Europa, located on Deck 4, Aft of the Disney Fantasy, is a nighttime entertainment district exclusively for Guests ages 18 and older. Europa is home to a variety of sophisticated lounges and nightclubs, including:

  • La Piazza
  • O'Gills Pub
  • Ooh La La
  • Skyline
  • The Tube
From the whimsical to the cosmopolitan, each venue in Europa is distinctly inspired by the very best in European travel.

O'Gill's is the sports bar. They have many TVs there with various sports on. Whether a specific show you want to see is on, you won't really know until you are onboard. If it's shown on ESPN or ABC, your chances are fairly good.

Thanks for your swift replies! I'll head there and ask when I get onboard. Won't ruin my holiday if not, after all there's plenty of other things to keep me entertained!

We loved O'Gills. We were on during March Madness. A lot of fun and they had a nice performer in there some evenings.

I agree, very expensive for bars to carry it. It's not a high capacity bar either so I don't see how they could offset the price to get it. But they will have ESPN on and I'm sure updates will be scrolling. Not quite the same but I highly recommend spending time in there. It was a fun bar staff.

We will be on the same cruise with you! As the PP's have noted, there is a sports bar on the Fantasy and if the fight isn't on one of the TV's just ask them and if the satellite is in range they will turn it in for you.

Pretty sure it's a pay-per-view event. I highly doubt they'd do anything PPV. Much less something as NOT family-friendly as a fight.

I don't think it's because it would be a violent sport. Any sport has the opportunity to turn violent. PPV charges an establishment based upon number of tvs and how many people could possibly be watching the event at one given time. I've been in and out of the service industry for 16 years and bars around here barely show fights anymore without an exorbitant cover to offset the cost. It can cost upwards of 3-5k to show a fight. It's a little ridiculous. That being said, since this is a long-awaited title fight, I don't think you'll have long to wait to see highlights and final decision on ESPN or major sports networks.

Yes any sport can turn violent because of jerks acting like children. But BOXING is an intentionally violent sport - people step into that ring willingly and knowingly intending to win by beating the other person senseless.

But yes, the whole pay per view thing is most likely the reason they won't show it.

When we were on the Fantasy we spent some time in O'Gill's watching football. Not that I'm that big a football fan, but my husband is. If boxing were on, I wouldn't be in there.

My degree is sports communications and public affairs, I guess I don't view sports the way others do lol

Are we debating whether boxing is appropriate or too violent? It seems OP just asked where he might find a sports venue that may possibly show the match. People suggested O'Gills but agreed ppv wouldn't be on.

I'm not even a boxing fan but I'm curious what the outcome is because of the media attention. I'm sure op will be able to see footage after. It just seems overboard to go into a boxing debate. The op may never come back! I'm new here too, sometimes these threads veer off course quickly.

I've seen many hockey games on the Dream so I really don't think they are real concerned about the family friendly thing, there are occasional fights during hockey games. I would think it would be pretty hypocritical if they were censoring there sports in a bar on a cruise since they own ESPN the home of Friday night fights. I do agree that it won't be shown though since it is PPV. The best you are probably going to do is the round by round updates ESPN provides. I have seen where they make an effort to get certain games if they can but don't see it happening on an event like that.

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies! Sounds like O'Gills and ESPN updates is the best bet so I'll head there and see what's on. If you are on that cruise and happen to be O'Gills that night look out for me - I'll be the short English guy drinking a Mojito!

Just got off the Fantasy. O'Gills was nice but could only show us the same channels that were in the staterooms - ESPN and ESPN2 were the main ones for sports. So no hockey for us. Lots of FIFA and MLB.
