Fantasy GTY 5E aft room vs other verandah options?

Hello!

My family is planning our first Disney cruise (DH and I have sailed on RC and carnival before), and I'm having a hard time deciding on our cabin selection. From what I've read on my stalking the dis boards, we are late in the game in booking, but we found a 7 day eastern carribean cruise that leaves in November 2016. We will be sailing with DS and DD (5 and 1.5 at time of cruise.

We definitely want a verandah room. Right now, there are availabilities in 5E rooms, but they are all GTY cabins. Has anyone had experience with this? Are there some 5E rooms worse than others? From what I've read, the verandahs are amazing in thee rooms and the big downside is the vibration from the engines. Both of my kids are pretty heavy sleepers-- does anyone have any advice for young ones and the aft cabins?

I guess my question is this: if it were your family, would you book a GTY 5E cabin or would you go with a forward 5D cabin on deck 6? (Both prices are essentially the same).

Thanks in advance for your advice--these boards have been great at helping a first timer with her questions!

If you are able to pick the 5D cabin I would go with that. We did a GTY one time are were "upgrated" to a better??? cabin on seck 10 right under the pool deck. UGH worst cabin ever!!! We were on deck 6 forward last cruise and loved the location. Very easy to get to the evening shows. Deck 6 is a midway level so if you need to take the stairs (because of long lines on the elevator) it's not a lot of floors:) to get back to your cabin after dinner or a show. Or an easy walk up and down to the pool

Yeah, I'd count on not actually getting a 5e with a GTY. Seems like most get upgraded because so many people specifically want the 5es (us included).

In 2013 we booked a 5E gty and were upgraded to 4C. Very nice, spacious room but we really wanted to try a 5E. We get to try one out in 2 weeks!

We booked a 5E GTY for our 2016 cruise and we have already been assigned a 5E room (about 170 days prior to the cruise). We were absolutely prepared to be "upgraded", but we had a 5E on the Dream in 2013 and decided it was worth a shot to have one again.

Thanks for the input all!

Weedy-- what was bad about your cabin on the 10th floor? The noise? Or the location?

My DH and I are leaning towards the 5e GTY, knowing that we may not get one, but crossing our fingers that we do!!

Anyone else have any good or bad experiences with GTY cabins?

We were assigned cabin 10558. Mid ship right by the mid ship stairs/elevator. The pool was one level above us. There was so much foot traffic in the halls and the stairway by our cabin. Kids running up and down the stairs. Plus the noise from the chairs being dragged from above. Also lots of kids running in the halls. The running may not be true every cruise but it was very bad this cruise.

We have cruised 14 times and my favorite cabins have been more forward or aft. The halls are much quieter and it is so much easier to move around. I am prone to motion sickness and have never felt bad on a Disney Cruise ship. I have not been able to tell a big difference in the motion of the ship from the location of the cabin.

The only time I have felt motion is usually the first night sailing out of Port Canaveral. The ocean can be a bit rough.
