We just got back from a week in Disney World and we had a fantastic trip. I have been to Disney about 11 times but I have not gone in the summer. We snaged four round trip tickets from DFW to Orlando on Delta for $125.00 each and it was an opportunity we could not pass up.
I was very nervous about the crowds and weather but everything turned out perfect! I have been to the parks in May when they were more crowded. I don't know if it is due to the recession this summer but I would not hesitate to go in the summer again. We hit every park early and did e-ticket one night. The early mornings were great and we always got to ride everything we wanted with limited use of the fast pass.
The August 7th e-ticket night was my only real disappointment. I have done e-ticket night before and got to literally walk on all the rides. On this night the park was still fairly crowded. We did not have to wait a really long time but it was at least 15-20 min. for Space Mountain and Buzz light year. We waited about a half hour for Alien Encounter. We actually had much better luck with the lines early in the mornings. We did not get to ride any rides twice.
We also went to Universal Studio and Islands of Adventure. One development that I did not read about on theses boards is they have a little book you can purchase with your tickets that is basically a fast pass for every ride. You then get to go to the front of the line on all the attractions. It is an extra $25.00 per person. I thought it was worth the price, so we did not have to rush around the park.
We enjoyed Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, but in my opinion they still do not compare to Disney World and we will not go back any time soon. I have two children, 8 & 9 and they were old enough to ride all the rides, but the magic just isn't there. The parks are really loud and rock music is blaring, especially at Islands of Adventure. There were a lot of teenagers and they really reminded me of Six Flags a lot more than Disney World. Some of the rides were a lot of fun but overall they just did not get our family that excited.
We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and it was fantastic. They always had lots of fun activities around the pool for the kids and the employees were extremely nice and friendly. My son, lost a tooth and they arranged for an authographed picture from Mickey to congratulate him.
The weather was hot but there was a lot of time that was overcast, so it cooled down. It was certaintly cooler than Texas! We took our first visit to Disney Quest and my 8 year old son loved it! He and my husband went back the next night while my daughter and I went to the Magic Kingdom. I have read alot of mixed reviews about Disney Quest and I think that it boils down to your interest in Video type games. My son and husband who enjoy them loved it and my daughter and I thought it was just o-kay. Well any question, let me know- great trip.
