Fantastic meal at San Angel Inn

We just got back from a weekong trip. We ate at Tusker House, 'Ohana, Skippers Canteen, and San Angel Inn. Hands down, far and away, our best meal (and also the cheapest!) was at San Angel Inn.

I'd been there before and always enjoyed it, but this was astonishingly good. We got a table right at the river, which certainly helped the atmosphere, but our waitress was lovely and the food was AMAZING. Like lick your plate clean delicious. We almost went back the next day because we were all still thinking about how good the food was.

It doesn't seem to get a lot of love around here, but seriously - give it a try. So good!

Glad you loved it! It is also right up there as a favourite table service for me! We've had consistently excellent service and meals there.

We love San Angel Inn too, you just can't beat that atmosphere. What did you order? They have changed the menu since we last ate there and my favorite was taken off the menu.

I had the Tacos de Carne and DH had the Arrachera con Chilaquiles. The kids both had the kids Quesedillas.
The steak in the tacos was so incredibly flavorful and tasty and I had a few bites of DH's and it was amazing, too.

We are fans also. It was one of the locations I choose to make sure I took my Mom to on her first, and only, visit. She loved it too.

I posted about this in another thread a few weeks back, but my wife and I had a similar experience in mid December. I've always liked the place, but our dinner on this particular trip (it was just the two of us), was fantastic. The food was wonderful. Our service was excellent. We were sat right on the railing overlooking the river. It was the best dinning experience of this particular trip, which was a bit unexpected.

Great to know! We have not been in a good number of years, but when we went on the little boat ride this past trip, we asked ourselves why we don't eat here any more! This is one of those places that sometimes gets the "not authentic" comments, but we found it tasty. Maybe we will add it for next trip. Since it will only be DH and me, we could possibly do a few TS ADRs. Thanks for the review.

So glad to hear this! This is our first dinner on our vacation coming up and we can't wait to eat there!

Which is funny because it is authentic, or as close as one finds outside of Mexico. It's different than what most picture as Mexican food but it is very authentic. If memory serves me right, the company that owns it, and La Hacienda, run restaurants in Mexico City, maybe even under the same name, or similar.

We plan to eat there our next trip. If we request to sit by the water will we have a long wait? I guess it depends on how busy they are?

It's not that simple. You can ask but just like those who request window seats at CG during Wishes, you may or may not be able to wait. They can't always allow it. One way to increase your odds is get your ADR for when it opens and get there to check in as soon as they start to take guests. That way, when you ask for a water seat there are good odds you'll be seated at one.

We ate at San Angel Inn for the CP package over Thanksgiving and it was easily our best meal of the trip. Enjoyed the tortilla soup!

We didn't request a seat by the water, I think we just got lucky. It looks like it's mostly 4 person tables, with a few 2 person tables, so I think it will just depend on what's available when you arrive and the size of your group. The whole restaurant is great though, so I wouldn't stress too much about being by the river.

This is a restaurant I have always wanted to dine in. Every trip I make an ADR and every trip I cancel it. It gets such crazy mixed reviews. I have reserved it for our anniversary trip and I am keeping it no matter what! Glad to see all the love in this thread.

We have looked over the menu and do not know what to order when we get there any suggestions?

We have always loved it there, too. I have never understood the bad reviews it gets :)

We went for lunch in June:
I got Coctel de Carmarón and Tostadas de Tinga
DH and DS both got Tacos de Carne
The little ones got chicken nuggets (but with rice and green beans)
and we got some churro things for dessert

I wouldn't say it was the best meal ever, but it was really good and fresh tasting. It was a fun environment to be in. I was so scared after the DIS Unplugged review and it recently was called one of the worst 1-credit meals there.

the food was AMAZING.
What did you have?
I love the atmosphere here but have honestly had real hit & miss food experiences. I noticed some of the most recent glowing reviews have been of their appetizers (ie having these as a lighter lunch) & was curious what you enjoyed. At this point, I have San Angel back on my short list for an OOP lunch (going the appy route & maybe splurging on one of those gorgeous avocado margaritas) then enjoying a larger CS for dinner eg Tangierine Cafe.

In December, my wife had the Tacos de Carne, and I had something that was on the specials list. I am struggling to recall the name, but it was a mixture of entrees that included braised short ribs, enchiladas, and a chile relleno. We had the Tostadas de Tinga as an appetizer.
