I'm wondering if my DS who's 4 would like it or be scared. He tends to scare easily, but he also has done fine with fireworks and laser shows. Is it really loud? Are the images scary? Do you get sprayed by water?

Thanks. :)

Hi Laura,

There is no way a bunch of strangers like us can tell you if your son will be scared. You know him best!

There are fireworks and lasers. It does get loud. There are some scary parts (just like Disney movies), but it has a happy ending. And you may get slightly sprayed, depending on the wind speed and direction, especially if you are sitting toward the front.

We have friends who have a 7YO who was scared to death and a 3YO who loved it. So it's your call. Personally, I'd do it.

I totally agree with the last post. We went with another family and my DD3 loved it but she is not easily scared and the other family's DD3 was scared to death. That said there are definitely some scary moments in this show and it can be very loud. Good luck with your decision.

When my oldest was 3yo, she was a bit scared by it, but I think it was basically because it was so loud. She (and I) covered her ears and she was fine with the actual show. If you don't sit too close to the front, you shouldn't get wet, unless there is a strong wind coming off of the water.

They also have fire that shoots out several times. You can feel the heat from it and in the dark night it can be a shock to the eyes. I would try it out. Worse thing youd have to get up and leave. Try sitting towards the middle back if you want to avoid the spray and heat. It will make for an easier exit too. My son now 4 first saw it at 2 and loved it, though he did jump a few times. You might also want to try to find a video clip of it and discuss what will happen with your son beforehand so its not a total surprise.

My kids have not seen it yet, I think it would be too intense for them. I have a DS7 and DD4. You should be able to tell how your kid is handling things while you are there.

there's a lot of focus on villians, and the evil villian laughter is quite loud. my DD found it very intense.

We just went on July 11 and I was apprehensive about DD4, but she ended up loving it. Of course, all kids are different, but my little one hated Soarin', Test Track, and even Goofy's Barnstormer but wanted to see Fantasmic again.

I did prepare her before that there were scary parts, so we had a deal she could cover her eyes and hide in my arms if she got scared. She did have to do that a few times but only briefly.

We sat about halfway back, so we weren't too close, and if you're worried about someone getting scared, I'd suggest you avoid the very front. Also, if you sit near the front, you could get wet by water spray; if you're back beyond the first few rows, you should be okay.

It does get loud, and there are fireworks, small explosions, and lasers. There are also frightening appearances by villains and a huge dragon.

If you do try to go, you could sit near the end and make a hasty retreat if your DS gets scared during the show.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to try and find a video clip of it, that's a great idea. Alot of times it's the surprise of what's going on that scares my DS and if he can see it in advance I bet it will help. And yes, I think we'll definitely sit in the back. I just hope we don't wind up sitting and waiting all that time for it to begin just to leave pretty quickly.

Hi,

DD saw it for the first time (roughly 4.5 years old) ... absolutely loved it.

One thing we did was prepare her for the loud booms that happen.

DS who was 9 months started crying at the loud booms - so DW took him for a walk.

With DD she can usually handle most situations if she gets a description on what to expect - - sort of like give her a reason not to be scared.

I thought my DS3 would be scared, but it turned out it was his favorite show and even wanted to be sorcerer mickey the following Halloween. Goes to show how unpredictable kids can be.

It is a fabulous show. I have a 3 and 4 year old. We recently viewed the show in June and it was pretty intense. It starts off fairly tame and intensifies. There were times when both had their head buried. We will probably skip it the next time we go. But like some of the other replies, you know your child better than anyone.

I think if you're going to try it, sit up in a pretty high row. I'm an adult and I don't really enjoy fire in attractions. It's not like I'm scared... just uncomfortable. ;) Anyway, there's one part of the show where the water all catches fire. We were in a pretty high row and I could really feel the heat from the fire. I was glad we weren't any closer.

another thing to try out might be how does your child react to the more intense villian scenes in the disney movies? If he's scared when Ursula starts laughing and gets bigger and bigger or of the sleeping beauty dragon--the intense "pure evil" moments, not the comic villian ones, then fantasmic is louder, bigger, hotter and more multisensory.

My DS, at age 4, would have reveled in it. My DD at 4 would have been plagued by nightmares, and it would have tainted the joy of our trip. Even at age 6 she said very emphatically that people should not bring "children" to this show, and she didn't want to go last time we were there.

You could preview it (at least the disneyland version) by going to youtube.com and typing in fantasmic in the search. Again, I think the bottom line is whether your child "scares" and it passess quickly and rolls off of him, or does it "enter in" to him and haunt his dreams and psyche. If he's that kind of child, I'd personally pass it up.
