We are thinking about doing Fantasmic with our DD (2.5) during our trip. DH and I have both seen it before and loved it, but this will be our DD first time. I have heard that it can be somewhat scary for toddlers (the fire and the dragon...or is it a snake?) Our DD is usually pretty good...and as far as being scared by things, were not sure how she'll be...the only thing we have to go by now is when she watches Nemo, she laughs when Bruce wants to eat Dory and Marlin, so I don't know if that's any indication how she'll do there?! :confused3

Anyone taken their little ones to this? How did they do? We would definitely consider the dinner package, but don't want to do that if it's not worth it. Thanks!

I won't - this thing is generally pretty late - add that to being tired from being in the parks all day long. crank child.

fireworks and children generally don't mess well. My niece hated them for years...

they are loud for delicate ears.

Hi Mookie,

You can get all the input you want, but I think it's really your call. No one knows your daughter better than you and your husband. :goodvibes

Some young kids love it, some don't. Our neighbors went with a 6YO (who was terrified) and a 3YO (who loved it).

Good luck,

Bob (a big Mookie Wilson fan)

Thanks for the input. Bob - Mookie is also our dog's name! :goodvibes

You could try bringing her to Muppetvision. If she can handle that (noises and explosions) then I'd say she has a good chance at handling F!

Hi!

My son :earsboy: was 2.5 when he saw Fantasmic for the first time and he loved it

Our DD 2 1/2 loved it. She's not scared of anything though. Bring her in, the worst that'll happen is you'll have to leave half way through. You won't know unless you try. Have fun!

Our twin daughters were 20 mo old in December when we went. Though they are twins, their personalities are quite different. Willow is quite fearless, while Tori was scared to death of the Abominable Snowman in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Needless to say, we were concerned about how Tori would handle Fantasmic.

To get through Rudolph, we had taught Tori to cover her eyes when ol' Abominable showed up. It was interesting to see her react by covering her eyes during the scarier parts of Fantasmic. It was even more interesting when we realized that she must have been peeking, 'cause the eyes came uncovered whenever Sorcerer Mickey showed up, and the little hands even clapped and pointed at times. Then right back over the eyes when the music turned scary. However, each time the eyes were a little less covered, and I made it a point to excitedly pronounce Mickey's arrival.

Fearless (but very tired) little Willow just wanted to bury her head in Mommy's shoulder and didn't want to look at any of it.

So both survived, and both reacted quite differently than what we expected. Tori's reactions were actually delightful, and Mickey was obviously her hero for many days to come. I gotta tell you, I never noticed Mickey on top of that pole at MGM Studios entrance, but she was thrilled to point him out as we left (of course, it took me a couple of minute to figure out what she was so excited about).

So I guess the whole point is that you won't know til you do it, and some preparation is essential. Give them a tool to help them cope and hug them tight if they need it. Don't force them to sit through it if they don't want to. Same goes for fireworks.. we played a lot with the Wishes and Illuminations web pages, showed them the planning video often, and I firmly believe it helped them a great deal.

By the way, Tori STILL hates the Abominable, and won't watch The WIzard of Oz. Willow loves both. And we get to try Fantasmic again in May...

We don't make it to fantasmic everytime, but last time we took the kids they were 4, 2, and 10 months. No problems at all. We sat far back - last minute decision in October - easy to find seats, just not close up. This was probably best. Nobody was bothered by anything. They all did enjoy regular fireworks at that age, so that may be a question or consideration. As for it being late, I think the show was at 7 - not late for us, and we always take breaks in the middle of the day, anyhow.

It's tough to say...You'll get mixed replies. But, if you really want to see it, you could give it a shot, and sit towards the back -- and leave if you have to. Good luck deciding.
