Visiting wdw in September and there is a night where f! shows at 8 and wishes at 10. what is the best exit strategy and how much time might it take?

you may want to know that we are staying at fort wilderness and will have a car

but what is the best way to do this if it is possible?

I would drive, but I like having my car and not depending on WDW transit.

That being said, catch the bus from Ft. Wilderness to DHS.
After Fantasmic, take the bus from DHS to MK.
When you're done at MK, ride the boat back to Ft. Wilderness.

F! has about a 30 minute run time, so you should be finishing up around 8:30 pm. It takes a bit to get out of the stadium and then to your car, so my guess is you'll be getting out of the DHS parking lot around 8:45 pm to 9:00 pm, which gives you an hour to get to the MK. In terms of watching Wishes, it depends a lot on whether you want to watch from inside the park or outside the park. If you want to watch from inside the park, you might be cutting it close between the time it takes to drive to the TTC, park, take the ferry to MK, get through security, and into the park. I think still doable, but you won't have a lot of time to find a viewing spot.

As the PP said, another option is to take the bus to DHS that day, and then take the bus to MK (or I would strongly consider taking a taxi from DHS to the Contemporary Resort and then walking to MK), and then take the boat back to Ft. Wilderness after fireworks.

It's very possible to bus this. In the past i've seen a fleet of buses waiting at the other park pickup from Hollywood. Never took but heading to another park seems to have priority (and a convienent bus stop). I'd try to sit near the back by the entrance and stay to your left which will bypass most of the long street and crowds going the other way.

just be aware the buses from dhs-mk will be busy at that point, but that's the simplest way to do it.(I remember doing this once near Christmas break time,oh the humanity and loud singing!:rotfl:)

I say go for the trifecta: watch fantasmic, catch the very first boat to EPcot (or walk, it is just over a mile). Then walk to the front of Epcot while watching Illumintions, and get on the monorail to MK.

That might be a bit aggressive :-). I would take the bus from DHS to MK or drive to the contemporary and valet park and walk to MK.
