We're arriving Sun, 10/8, and have booked dinner at Food and Vine before Fantasmic. I have a 5 and 7 year old - hoping this won't scare them at the beginning of the trip. What should we do this afternoon/evening at MGM before/after dinner?

TIA,

KC

Well, Hollywood and Vine is our favorite buffet at WDW. We have six very different tastes so we love the variety, but you hear good and not-so-good comments about it all the time. My kids have always loved Fantasmic, even when they were toddlers they were never scared. It is our favorite night time show at WDW. It really depends on your kids though, some are scared of the noise, the fire, the villians etc. I would be sure to tell them all about it ahead of time, maybe bring ear plugs if they don't like the noise, and be prepared to get up and leave if they get upset. As far as MGM, there are a lot of fun things to do for all ages. It is mostly shows, but we all enjoy the Little Mermaid show, the Beauty and the Beast show, the Indiana Jones show, the Great Movie Ride, and the Backlot Tour. Yours may enjoy Playhouse Disney, mine did when they were younger. Look at wdwinfo and read about all of the other shows/rides there and decide what you think they will like. We always enjoy a full day at MGM!!!

Fantasmic is our favorite nighttime show also. My DDs were 4 & 7 the first time they saw it and we just told them it was all Mickey Mouse magic and that certainly Mickey wouldn't let the villians prevail! Have fun!

Fantasmic has become a tradition on our first night. We usually don't arrive on Orlando until early afternoon and head to MGM for dinner and Fantasmic. It's a GREAT show! My DS was 3 1/2 last year and loved it. DD was 1 but I don't think she knew to be scared or not. Overall, it was a great night. We even had a little time before the show to see Little Mermaid and stroll through the shops. Seeing Fantasmic that first night made our long MGM day later in the week feel a little shorter not having to stay for Fantasmic.

Good luck!

Maybe its just me but I dont see how Fantasmic is scary. Maybe I have to look at it from a toddlers point of view. To me the show was almost tear jerking. See I just came back from my first trip with my two oldest children and i loved it. It was so neat seeing how they could do all of that on water. I know going forward I will catch the show again and again. My youngest is five and she loved it. I have two yr old twins but I didnt take them. I just figured it would be to much and in my opinion I was right. I plan on going back in 2009 when the twins are a little older and boy I cant wait!!!
