can you pay for the fantasmic dinner package with dining plan credits? the restaurants are on the plan, but it is not clear to me if you can get the reserved seats at fantasmic this way.

Yes, just book the FDP at the restaurant you choose (Brown Derby is 2 TS credits while Hollywood and Vine and Mama Melrose are 1 TS credit) and tell them you are on the dining plan.

Exactly how does this work? Do you eat dinner while watching Fantasmic or do they save really awesome seats if you book this? I would really like to do this too!

Don't assume that since you have ADRs at Hollywood & Vine, Brown Derby or Mama Melrose's that you will automatically get the Fantasmic Dinner Package. Apparently there are only a certain number of "Fantasmic Dining Packages" per day, and they are seemingly hard to get. I had an ADR for Hollywood & Vine for months, and had to call several times a week for 4 months until I finally nabbed an ADR for the FDP at Hollywood & Vine! We were there on December 6.

What happens is: Your server gives you a ticket when you have your dinner and they tell you to go to the gate near the "gas station" stroller rental at least a half an hour before the show. They let you in through a back area and you get to sit in a reserved seating area. From the way it looked, they had at least 1/3 of the seating set apart as Reserved. We had fantastic seats, right in the middle!

Wow, I guess I lucked out because I had no problems getting my ADR's for the FDP for H&V last August or Mama Melrose for next week. The only thing I don't care for is the early times we have to go. Luckily they let us come a half hour later in August than our assigned time at 4:05 (we asked first thing that morning). We really enjoyed having the guaranteed seating. We went 45 minutes before Fantasmic started and were one of the first 10 in the reserved seating area. The entire far left side was still available for open seating. I wanted to make sure we had a guaranteed seat when we are at MGM on MLK Day this January 16 so I booked it back in late October.

Laurin612 is right that you do not automatically get a voucher with an ADR to one of the participating restaurants. You have to specifically make a Fantasmic Dining Package ADR.
