Fantasmic Dinner Package Booked at Resort??

I know that there have been a lot of threads on these boards about the Fantasmic Dinner Package, but I have a question that I really haven't seen addressed. I know that there is the new dinner package that can be booked weeks in advance, but does anyone know if you can still book the old dinner package that costs less, if you do it at the park or Disney resort within the old 7-day window? I have also considered just getting something to eat and taking it into the seating area to eat there while we wait. We are going to be going to MGM on either 10/18 or 10/19(Friday or Saturday), so I don't know if the Fantasmic shows will be really crowded or not. The deciding factor on which day to go is whether it is expected to rain or not. I would really only like to do the package if there is expected to be a long wait beforehand. Thanks to anyone who has suggestions or past experiences!
