Just booked dinner at Mama Melrose's because DH insists on going to this show ... I never even heard of it before but the 2008 Unofficial Guide to Disney says it is a "Must-Do". Just thought the dinner package would be easier ( and we have to eat, right?)

Does anyone have any input to share? We'll be there on Monday, April 28, so I am hoping the weather will be OK. She took a cc# but told me it is just to hold it and we can use our DDP.

Thanks in advance!

Fantasmic is the evening performance at MGM, like Illuminations at Epcot or the Wishes fireworks at Magic Kingdom. It is definitely worth seeing, and if you are planning a sit down meal anyway, it is worth doing the package to save some standing in line time.

We used the dining plan at Mama Melrose's on our 2006 trip and it was a good meal. The server will give you a slip of paper to use the special entrance, and go over the details iwth you.

We are doing a Fantasmic package again this trip, but will be at the Hollywood Brown Derby. We are not on the dining plan, this is our one "big" meal out for the trip.

We have done the Fantasmic dinner package twice at Hollywood and Vine. It was a fabulous buffet. Both times were low attendance times (mid April and early Feb.), and it turns out we could have gotten a seat with no problem even without the dinner package, but it was nice to not have to worry about whether we'd get a seat or not.

When you first get to the seating area for dinner package guests, it feels like you're way off to the side and they won't be good seats, but they turn out to be great. I don't think there's a bad seat in the place because of the way it's set up. If you sit in the first 8 rows or so, you will get wet, so keep that in mind if it's cool out.

Don't feel obligated to sit in the dinner package area. This area is off to the far right of the theatre. Go through the dining package entrance. Once you get in the theatre if you want to move toward the center of the theatre and there are still seats left, feel free to move.

I love Fantasmic! It is my favorite of all the nighttime shows at WDW.

I've used the dinner package twice- once on Thanksgiving and it was well worth it, the second time in March and it was not worth it b/c the show was canceled. We ended up eating there (H &V)anyway b/c we had the DP and the kids were hungry, but I would have rather eaten somewhere else.

Yes, Fantasmic is a must see! :smickey:

We did the package last May and went to Hollywood & Vine. We were not impressed with the food there. Just average I guess. We can't see using 2 Table Service credits each at Brown Derby, so we are also going to try Mama Melrose this time. Some people have told me it is great, and others don't care for it at all. So I guess we will find out!

Thanks for all the prompt responses - I LOVE this board! DH thought I should try to switch to Brown Derby but no need to spend 2 TS that night. We are doing a buffet in the morning at AK - Donald Safari breakfast, so I thought Mama Melrose's would be the best option.

Do we pay any extra for the reserved seating vouchers? Or is it just a TS on the DDP?

Fantasmic is so wonderful. It's a must see. And the special seating makes me feel like a VIP :cool1: It will turn into a fav for you. :thumbsup2 :yay: :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2:

I love the show. The package is great, especially because when it is busy in the park, you do not have to line.

WOW, you are lucky to have a DH who keeps up on this stuff. My DH just smiles at me and says 'Where to next:teeth:"... which is cute really... but some input other than "Not it's a Small World again, I'm gonna hurl:crazy2:" would be a nice surprise.

We almost always do the dinner package. This past Feb I let it slide thinking I wanted to wait with everyone else, how bad could it be? Not my best idea, we were stuck ALL the way in the back with REALLY tall folks in front of us. Never again.

I LOVE the show. The dinner package gets you a ticket for a separate entrance and your section is reserved which means you can get there later and still have a Fantasmic seat;)

I agree that I would not do 2 TS credits at Brown Derby, but we are trying it this time since we will be paying OOP. We chose Mama Melrose's last time because it was only 1 TS credit, and I do NOT do buffets, which ruled out H&V. We were very pleased with our meal at Mama Melrose's and had great service.

there is no charge for the special seating, it will just be your 1 TS credit.

Great to know ... thanks!
