As with most of the attractions that originated at Disneyland first, "Fantasmic" is much better at Disneyland than WDW. First off, you don't have to wait in some line forever before entering a theater since the show takes place on the Rivers of America.
Secondly, there are many elements in the DL show that are not in the WDW show. Instead of the Pocahontas scene, there is a great Peter Pan scene. Where the WDW version relies on the "water screens" for much of the show and there is a heavy villains emphasis, there are some fare more interesting scenes and uses of the production area than at WDW.
I highy recommend that you don't miss this Fantasmic! Give your group about and hour to 90 minutes to find a space to watch from or try the dessert buffet.
Okay, I haven't seen it at WDW, but it seems like it would not be as great b/c part of the whole Fantasmic! experience is that it takes place along the river, not in a theater.
My family and I saw Fantasmic on June 29th at DL and we loved it! We have seen WDW's Fantasmic twice (it's a very good show) and we sat in the FDP section both times. We think that DL's show is much better. Although we did not feel justified in purchasing the premium seats with the dessert buffet, I could see how it would make the show that much better. I say if it is playing twice/night (like it was during our stay) try to see the second show as it will be less crowded.
