fanny packs

I myself don't care for the look of a fanny pack so I refuse to wear one. I always get 1 strap backpack type bag that goes around my shoulder/body, diagonally. It is also convertible so I can use it as a pocketbook if I wanted to. Does that make sense? I got a really nice khaki colored one with enough room to fit my camera in its case, sunglasses for DH and I, small wallet, sanitizing gel, and lip balm. I really like the khaki one b/c I usually wear khaki shorts so it always looked good and it was lightweight. It did get wet a few times and dried just fine. I think I bought it at JCpenny last year. It wasnt more than $20. Thats my suggestion if you are like me.
Just noticed another posters messenger bag from Old Nacy-mine was very similiar but a little smaller I think.
Good luck! :)

Me again... I ran to the Totes outlet today to pick up the fanny/lumbar pack that I had mentioned here. I still love it!
And, they got a new bigger one, like the lumbar pack the previous poster just mentioned. And, it is REALLY nice!

I guess I really don't know what the big fashion issue is with the fanny/lumbar packs. I mean, if you don't use one of these, then do you seriously think that constantly slinging around a back-pack looks any better??? LOL!!!!! :rotfl2:

I mean, the reality is, every time you want to either sit-down, retrieve something you are needing, ride a ride, take it off and back on to get a break from that weight on your back and shoulders, etc... etc... etc... I mean, no way am I going be enjoying myself looking like some kind of pack-mule!!! It is an amusement park, people!!! :earboy2:
Not an outdoor mountain/river trek!

And, if you don't use either, you will have purse, camera, bags, etc. dangling from every conceiveable shoulder, elbow, hand, etc.... There is nothing worse than not being hands-free!

Can you tell I am very happy with the fanny-packs I found!!! :)

I am not a big fanny pack fan; however, I don't like to lug a bag around all day. I ordered a PUP utility pouch from QVC and just arrived today. I got the black but it comes in tan, red and navy also. I think it will be perfect. It is large enough to hold my Digital camera, cell phone, money, sunglass and more. There are several outside pockets and one large zippered compartment and a smaller zippered compartment. It will fit a waist up to like 54 inches or it can go over the shoulder. I am looking forward to breaking it in May 1-7!

That one actually looks cute! I usually use a small Nike backpack. It works well and isn't real heavy, but I find myself carrying it on my shoulder like a purse, rather than using it as a backpack. Sort of defeats the purpose.:upsidedow Now...do I switch over to the fannypack? I stopped using them quite a while ago because I hate the way they look on me! I've yet to find the ideal method for toting things around the parks!
It looks more like a nine west microfiber purse than a "fanny pack". I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. They now make one with a slightly different shape..just search on belt bags. It is also pretty slim and I move it to the side a little. I hate the way the big overstuffed kangeroo pocket looks hanging in the front!

Question - do you ladies carry the bag most of the time or does your husband? My DH refuses to carry anything that looks too "girlie" or is a fanny pack! We will use just one back for the both of us. He wants to lug around a regular backpack all day. I would like to get a cute messenger bag or on of those smaller backpacks. He says he hates to carry a messenger bag because it's slug around your body.

I also have no clue why we need a backpack. We have a camera which is normal camera size. Park tickets and money can go into a small pouch. Dh wants to bring bottled water which make sense to save money, except we will not have a car down there to go to a grocery store, so what does he expect - for us to buy bottled water at home and take it on the plane??? I really don't understand how that's going to work.

Do they ever sell those big hug cups that you can get free refills on? I know some amusement parks have big ones you buy for like $15 (ouch) but you can get it refilled for free. Figuring if we got one of those and carried that around all week that's not bad... but dno't know if disney has that or not.

The "fanny pack" is for me, so that I don't have to take a purse (credit cards, money, make up....a few essentials. The dh carries the back pack witht he rest of the stuff(cameras, water, kids stuff). We also have a 3 and 5 year old. We have to carry additional bag(s) for snacks, juice cups, wipes so one fanny pack just wouldn't do it!
You are right, you must decide on a bag based on what you need to carry(fanny pack vs. messenger bag vs. back pack). Once that is determined personal style picks the right bag for you! Good Luck!

I use a fanny pack in Disney. Its not the best look but so many people use them who cares. I got mine at Wal-mart for under $5. Its black and waterproof. It has a main pocket for a few larger things, a front zip for whatever and a back zip against your body that I put my credit cards in so they don't fly out while getting out my camera or something.

I myself dont find the "fanny pack" to be any more comfortable or convenient than the one strap backpack I use. The reason I dont like the "look" of the fanny pack is not because I care what anyone else thinks of it, b/c you are right, lots of people use them. For me, I dont feel comfortable wearing a bag strapped around my waist. :sad2: I do not use a large backpack-mine is pretty small and slings over one shoulder. I have never had to take it off to do anything-it fits on all the rides. ::yes::
As long as you are comfortable using whatever type of bag, purse or pack you like, thats what matters. And if you feel like a dork in a fanny pack-then wear what you feel good in! :cheer2:

so I am thinking instead of using a big messanger bag of getting the very touristy fanny pack. i have looked at some and many seem impractical (heavy, leather, black) for a summer trip. I don't want to wear something that will make me super hot and all i need is room for cell room keys wallet and sunscreen. everything else will either be worn or if it is a package sent to the hotel.

what i want:

light weight:faint:
light colored :sunny:
nylon/waterproof --not like super water proof but enough it gets splased to not soak through. :umbrella:

what do you think? do you know of any places that sell packs like this? would i be better just carrying the messanger bag and be able to have water and umbrellas with us all the time?

thanks in advance!

Here's something from Patagonia that might fit the bill...but at a price ($70) and it looks like they are currently sold out.

We bought one recently to take to WDW. It's not as big it looks; so its not as big as a typical messenger bag but Patagonia may have some other packs like this that are bigger. Its about double the size of a typical fanny pack (or, as Patagonia calls them, hip pack). One nice feature is that it has a zip pocket on the padded shoulder strap to hold a cell phone or a smallish two-way radio. It's designed such that you can swing it in front of you (like a fanny pack) when you want to access the contents and then swing it back around your back when you're carrying it.

I only wear a fanny pack one time during a year.....at disney

actually, I lie...I use it sometimes to hold my discman while IM cutting grass
