I'm guessing a fanny pack is best to take into the parks. What about backpacks? I was thinking I needed something to put kids snacks, water etc... in.
What about size of camera. I got a new digital camera for Christmas it's not small, should I buy a throw away camera to take to the parks instead of my digital?

we got a shoulder bag for a camcorder( walmart, samsonite, $14, about 6x6x10) that goes either over the shoulder or locks in a waist position...it went beside us on the rides under the restraint and never moved. we travel as light as we can, ususally sticking anything in pockets we can and leaving everything else in the room.it held my larger slr, extra lens etc. i liked this one as it has outer zipped pockets for passes, ect so i don't have to keep opening it . we rarely carry snacks except husband takes a granola bar usually in a pants pocket...personally i'd pack pants pocket sized stuff for everyone over about 2 yrs. to lug their own so you can take as small a bag as possible.

that being said i really wish i had taken more pics last trip so this time the camera is going every day( i'm getting a smaller but still not tiny one) so i might look for an even smaller bag.

Thanks OP for asking the question I too had on my mind. My family and I are heading down the first week of May and I have my Canon S2 IS (not big but not small either) and a few essentials (TGM recommended) that I plan on placing in a backpack. I was curious about taking it on rides and if that was allowed etc... Any info is appreciated.

My hubby wore the backpack and I would wear the fanny pack- or we would bring the stroller for our little one and throw everything in the bottom of that!
D.D.

I always wear a fanny pack, as do DH and all of the kids. I keep my digital camera (not a small one!) in the largest compartment of my fanny back. I keep money, my license, a credit card and a chapstick in another pocket and everyone's park tickets and fastpasses in the front pocket. I also carry a backpack. It is usually filled with jackets and maybe a change of clothes (we tend to go at changing-weather times of year), water bottles and crystal lite packets, sunscreen and snacks. If I have a stroller I'll also bring a small soft-sided cooler with juice boxes, frozen water bottles and fruit that rides in the basket of the stroller. Sometimes I feel like a pack mule, but we almost always use what we've brought and it doesn't really impede me at all.

If only you knew what a "fanny" is in England. I'm laughing so much I'm in serious pain! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I found a British slang ditionary online. I can see why you are amused. :)

I have a Lowepro sling bag that is a backpack when walking, but slides to your front and rests like a fanny pack at your waist....letting you access the side panel (which becomes the top panel when it slides around), and get to your camera. I have the Nikon D100, and I take it everywhere I go. I love this bag because it's small enough to not be heavy, but gives me room at the top for my snacks, tissues, bandaids, lots of little things. And there is another pocket in the front for more stuff...plus, the extra room in the bag. I purchased a Mickey head clip that holds soda/water bottles, and I use that on any bag I carry...it's great and was only like $1.99!

Since I've hauled cameras around Disney every trip we've ever gone, and I've purchased more bags than I care to admit too...I can honestly say this bag is the BEST! If you carry a digi SLR, you should look at this bag!

If we bring a stroller, we bring a small diaper bag and leave it with the stroller when we go on rides. Of course we don't leave anything valuable in it, just water, snacks, diapers (of course), etc. My wife and I usually each use a fanny pack, in which we keep valuables/essentials, such as ID, credit card/room key, park ticket, cash, etc.

For the digital camera, I have a fairly small one, but its certainly not tiny. I have a case that is just big enough for it and it has a belt loop, so I just attach it to my belt/fanny pack. I also got a clip on sunglasses case to attach to my belt loops as well.

As long as you go light, I'd think fanny packs should be enough. But if you still need a backpack, its still pretty easy to carry it on all of the rides.

When our son got big enough so that we didn't need the stroller, we passed on the diaper bag and found the fanny packs were still adequate. (We now have a baby daughter though, so its back to the stroller/diaper bag for the next trip.)

Best investment I have ever made $40

I purchased one of those aqua backpacks.. it is about 1/4 the size of a regular backpack... At night I would fill up the bladder with water and freeze it for the next day.(Perfect for August by the way).. The backpack also has enough space for two cameras and a medium sized purse.

If we bring a camcorder, my husband and I switch off with a backpack. Otherwise, either I will carry a fannypack or he will shove what we need into his cargo pockets.

We utilize both. Depends on the days plan. If it is supposed to rain, I usually have my backpack, to carry rain gear, and umbrellas. Or if we are going to late entry and just want to do serious rides, fanny pack. Once in a while we look comanndo's cause I like to use the "clip" on my belt pack. Not sure of the proper term, its one used in climming. hook my rain gear, hat, etc.. right off the clip. That is for serious touring in summer heat. You have things you need, but no room for it.

I don't feel comfortable with just pockets and doing rides, I lose stuff to easily.

Those are the key words I was looking for, I didn't know if they stopped you from carrying them on the rides for fear they would fly out and drop off etc... Thank you kindly for the reply. :goodvibes

Wow, I've not heard of such a thing that doubles as a backpack and a liquid container. eBags here I come... I'm guess but figured would type in here, do you drink out of a straw type thing (like biker's have?). :confused3

Dh and I do all the carrying of extras. Even though our kiddos are older, we don't want them to have "worry" about accidentally being a kid in the Happiest Place on Earth! :) He carries a backpack with all our worldly goods (fleeces, drinks, snacks, sunscreen, UG, etc etc) for that day. I carry the fanny pack and hang on to everyones cards, wallets, small trinket items, chapstick and "female" items.

Just some FYI about the fanny packs with cell phone pockets. Don't store your Key Cards in the same fanny pack as your cell phone...NOT a great idea! Ask me how I know...ask me how the POP CMs know...Ask me why I am starting to feel a bit tense again...go ahead, ask me!!! :furious:

I LOVE my camelbak :bounce: , bought it when I lived in the desert. Would never leave home without it. Some will run you $$ but you can find some good deals online. There is a tube with a bite and suck bit on the end that comes out of the pack. Mine is 3liters, and when you fill it with ice it will stay cold all day. Last time I stashed sandwitches in that part of the pack to keep them cold

There are certain words you will not find in a slang dictionary. To put it mildly, and no offence to anybody here, a "fanny" in England is a derogatory term for a ****** (obviously, you can't type that word on the Disboards - it begins with V and ends in A - let's try "female front bottom"). So to insult somebody over here you (and here's being mild again) would call them a "stupid f***y".

Hence, putting things in your fanny pack is met with amusement over here.

TOTALLY! I have a digital SLR and I use a Lowepro backpack and LOVE IT! I usually leave my extra lenses at home and bring just my favorite, so that leaves room in the backpack for the camcorder, too. http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Backpacks/classic/Micro_Trekker_100.aspx

I also wear a small fanny pack to keep our tickets, bandaids, sunscreen, money, tissues, wet wipes, etc, in. Then I pack one other backpack that usually dh carries with snacks, ponchos, small water bottles, misc stuff. Seems to work well.

Hey, no problem on rides, on RNR,etc, just put your legs through the straps of the backpack. There are probably many threads on this type of tip. My DH and I both did backpacks last year and had absolutely no problem.
Have fun!
