This will be the first trip where my DD is going to be able to keep up with us and all the walking. 2 years ago she did need a rest here and there in her brother's stroller.

So since she is now an official big girl Disney addict we are getting her her very own digital camera. I was wondering if any of you have your 8 year olds bring their own fanny pack? She is soooo tiny! I am not sure we can find one that adjusts small enough for her.
Any recommendations on what she can keep her things in that will be hands free? SOmething small and lightweight?

If she wants to carry something else beside the camera I would go with the fanny pack -and yes they do make small ones. If all she will have is the camera I would just get a very small case-I just got one at Walmart for $3. and have her wear the camera around her neck, handy then for taking pictures without dropping it because our rule is the strap is around your neck or you don't use it.

Hmmm. That may work. The camera we are getting doesnt have a long strap. What do you use for around the neck?

We will have to talk with Sophia and see what she wants to do. She has her own money saved for the trip but I think I will be holding onto that.:thumbsup2 The camera around the neck trick may work.

Our old camera had a longer strap-thin like a string with a slider so we just put it on the new camera, but you can buy straps almost anywhere. It works well my DD walked around with her camera around her neck for the whole week. the fanny packs are better than a backpack or bag because you don't take them off and on and much less of a chance of leaving it behind. After a few days of the fanny pack when my DD was your DD's age she started giving me her money and just carrying the camera- cooler that way.

I have an old Mickey fanny pack that would be perfect for this- also, it could hold a snack or two for when she got hungry.
I am not sure if they sell them anymore, but it was a plush mickey mouse that had been transformed into a waist pack. Maybe check ebay?

I bought my DD13 a precious Minnie Mouse fanny pack when we were at WDW for spring break a few weeks ago. It is understood that she will only use it at WDW, since she is "too old" for it, but even she admitted how nice it was not to have to wear a backpack. She had her cell phone, her sunglasses, and some money and her ticket/room card. She could have fit a camera in if her sunglasses hadn't been so big (so I carried the camera in my backback.)

Have a great trip!!

They sell all kinds of fanny packs at Disney World. They have childrens sizes as well as adult ones. My boys 9 and 7 are each going to carry a fanny pack. They are going to carry cameras and autograph books. Because of the amount of items they are carrying we got them adult fanny packs. My DD4 who is tiny is getting a princess child size fanny pack. I am not sure if she will use it or not, but if the boys get one she will have to have one too. If all your daughter wants to carry is a small camera and a snack she should be able to carry a child size pack.

Thanks so much! I bet she would love a plush pack. I am going to search a bit and see what I come up with. I am going to give her a choice. A fanny pack or camera strap around the neck. I am leaning toward fanny pack because then she can put her glasses in there to and maybe some Purell. That would cut back on the size of bag I need.
They are getting older so I am trying to make due with a very small purse. We shall see/

Just make sure wears it. We bought DS(7) a fanny pack @ Disney last year & she refused to wear it around her waist. She kept her digital camera, cash, pressed penny collection (from three trips) etc in it. One morning we were getting in line for the bag check @ MK & she realized she didn't have it, we had just gotten off of the monorail. We got a call later that afternoon, someone had turned it in at the Poly stop. Luckily enough she has both my wife & my cell phone numbers in it. After that she had to either wear it or leave it in the room.
