OK. Now that I have decided that we will more then likely take the cruise I start looking at the menus on the Wonder. I am now worried. I have to be honest. We are not "fancy food" eating people. Chicken Parm and spaghetti or Meatloaf and parmesan mashed potatoes are more along our "dining out" choices. The food in the main dining areas does not seem like something we would enjoy (especially my dh who is a meat and potatoes kind of guy). Butternut Squash soup and such will NOT go over well with him. Are there other alternatives besides hotdogs and hamburgers every night?

Do the menus change often? I was researching a site who had sample menus and maybe that was just for one evening?

I can deal with it, but I do not want a grumpy dh walking around that big ol boat :earboy2:

On my first cruise I felt the same way, I like good old fashion food too....
But I must admit the food was very good, and the selection was not as exotic as it sounds, you can still get steak, chicken, pork though it may be prepared a little different than home. The buffet is always another choice as well, which offers different items than the resturants.

Thanks... Now the last buffet of the day is lunch, right? And that ends at 2pm?

There is always a selection of beef, chicken and any kind of potato you want. Even if you do not see it on the menu your server will be able to make a plate that suits you!!

And, by the way...the butternut squash soup is absolutely delicious!!!! Almost like pumpkin pie!!!

I really understand where you are coming from!! My family is not a "fancy food" family! The servers on the ship are really good! If they have chicken with some type of sauce, you can request to leave the sauce off. My family chose to eat something different every night. We tried Escargo - GROSS! We tried Caviar - GROSS! One night for an entree I ordered Roast Duck - GROSS! Our servers, brought me another entree. The main goal for them is to make sure you are completely satisfied! If they have to bring 3 entrees, they will do it - happily. We looked at it like, we paid for the experience, why not experience EVERYTHING... Even the kids tried different things every night. It was alot of fun and we brought back some fantastic memories. :flower1:

I agree with the prior post. Try new things. Where else can you do this, risk free for "free". I look at the menus and go, hum :scratchin whats the "wierdest" thing on the menu and usually will give it a go - if I haven't had it before - except for the duck - for some reason - I ain't going there. Have tried escargott (slugs in a shell) and calamari (fried rubber bands) elsewhere so up till now I haven't tried them again (but just maybe on our next cruise!)

I see the food as part of the adventure. And I have had some really great meals of things I would never try at home. For example - I don't like fish too much (salmon and halibut are just ok, everything else is gross). But ... I tried the stuffed grouper in Lumiers and it was fabulous!! At Brunch in Palo I had some other fish dish (tipil..???) and that was probably the best dish I have ever had.

Thanks so much for your replies! I feel better now. I am happy to know that we can get some chicken or beef with potatoes if we dont want anything else that is being offered.

Jane,
If you see something that you want to try, but don't want to commit to having it as an entree, you can ask the server to bring out an extra entree (appetizer, dessert, etc) for your family to share.

My hubby usually orders two appetizers, so he can have the seafood one and still try something new. We've tried some of the weirdest dishes and he even likes those garlicy snails (yuk :) ).

If you guys like a good steak, you may want to try Palo. It's adults only, but on the seven night cruise they also do brunch and tea. They usually have a beef entree at brunch and the filet that I had a dinner was excellent.

Plus no matter what you eat you are not cooking it or cleaning up after cooking it so that just makes it taste WONDERful :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I'll try anything once. We did have a guy a couple of tables away who was right out of the Ozarks. He must have sent back 2 entrees a night.....ordered Beef Wellington, wanted to know why it "was wrapped in bread". Ordered chicken, wanted to know why it had "gravy" on it.

Same guy showed up to formal night in a black sweatsuit.

I am a somewhat plain food eater. I always ask...."why on airlines do they roll fruit in the pancake?" or "stuff the chicken?"....why cant they for once...leave it alone? lol I just like plain meat and potatos too so I have to admit that my first cruise....i never had an appetizer and barely ate the dinner but each time I would deny anything, my servers brought something else for me to try. They were wonderful like that. This time, I think I am going to try things I would never have before because I know if I dont like it, they will bring me something new. You can bet you will NEVER leave the restaurant hungry!!! lol
