Ever heard of the Harry Potter Alliance?

It's a fan forum for Harry Potter fans.

And they're starting a "What Would Dumbledore Do?" type campaign in conjunction with the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince movie.

Here's some more info:
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/en...arry-potter-wants-youto-change-the-world.html

and a quote

The Doctrine, however, goes beyond the personal, discussing how Dumbledore’s values can be translated onto the national and global stage into public policy that legalizes same sex marriage, indigenous people’s rights, the Employee Free Choice Act, and media reform while joining the HPA’s partner NGO’s in their stand against genocide, poverty, prison torture, and global warming.

I think it's awesome!

I loved that Dumbledore was gay. I think presenting gay rolemodels to youth who are respectable and not stereotypes is very important, and I love J.K. Rowling for that.

And I love the idea of saying "Look, the problems that fictional characters deal with are similar to our own. They made the world a better place, so can we!"

certainly better than the ***** who writes twilight giving 10% of all proceeds from the movie to the Mormon church!

I think I just became an even bigger Harry Potter fan

Not a fan of Potter. :( Only because I didn't care for the writing style. I love the premise, and I absolutely love Rowling's life story.

The whole Twilight thing I simply won't go near. I refuse to spend a second of my time (or cent of my money) on having anything to do with someone who openly supports a faction of society that is so virulently anti-gay as the Mormon church. Harsh stance? You bet your ***. Do I care that it is? Nope.

All that to say, anything that promotes the civil liberties of all persons has value to me.
