Fan fiction/novels

Fan fiction written on web sites and novels that come out after a movie series is over such as the star wars ones. I find them strange. I don't want to change what happened. I like to leave the hero standing on the stage with the girl with the medal around his neck, never knowing if they got married and had children.
I know several people including my dd who are very into these things and I just find them odd. What about you guys.

I used to read fan fiction for the show Friends. Most of it was entertaining.
What I find creepy is the fan fiction written about my favorite band Barenaked Ladies. These are married men and these women write porn stories about them. Why would you publish them on the internet. I know the band members have read them and they also find it creepy.

See I don't really know about it other then star wars and star trek. Porn fiction about a band that's around. That is truly creepy. I wonder if the guys wives get a laugh about it since they know the real guys.

I'm a great fan of the television series Remington Steele. I've read lots of the fan fiction that has resulted from that series.

I love TR but not the fan art and fiction. Some people seem to get confused as to what has really happened in the games and what was just made up and put into fan fiction.

I just don't 'get' it myself. Why not write your own stories/books?

I LOVE good fan fiction. And of course I do mean good. Not smut/PWP, Mary Sues, or gramatically-challenged contrivances dreamed up by 14 year old girls , but there are some very, very talented writers out there, and I'm very grateful they choose to share their work.

The reason I like fan fiction is two-fold. First of all, I enjoy the characters. I'm interested in their perspectives and future adventures. When someone really gets a character's "voice" it's like reading about an old friend. Also, the majority of fan fiction is more B-plot based, which is always what I was more interested in, and what is usually slighted in most shows and movies.

80-90% of what's out there is crap, but finding a really good one makes wading through the junk worth it!!!
