Famous person dress up .. need help

My daughter has a project due.. she has to give a report/speech on a famous person... who do you think would be the easiest to do and find a costume like? She is thinking Besty Ross or Helen Keller.. any ideas or has your child done this project or something like it.. she has no problem writing her report.. just wondering what would be easy to do her costume ....

DS13 had to do one of these several years ago, famous Pennsylvanian. Since I am not crafty, I encouraged him to pick Arnold Palmer. Golf shirt, khakis and we actually had a hat from one of his tournaments. He carried a golf club voila!


You could probably find a lot of stuff to use with the Halloween stuff out.

I was Clara Barton - the founder of the Red Cross - in the 5th grade. I wore a blue dress and my Dad made me a nurses cap out of poster board and put a red cross on it.

My DD was assigned a project on Ruby Bridges. Needed a costume too for the oral presentation. For probably no more than $5 or $6, we picked up some stuff at Goodwill. And then when we were done with it - we donated it back to Goodwill.

My DD was Amelia Earhart last year. She wore my old brown leather jacket, a pair of sunglasses, a winter scarf around her neck, jeans and brown leather boots.

Her friend was Jane Goodall. She pretty much wore regular clothes, but she pinned a stuffed gorilla to her back.

DS18 was Michelangelo-he wore a white shirt, got some fabric at the fabric store and put that over his head, used some leather shoelaces to tie that, wore grey sweatpants and slippers. We made an artists pallet out of cardboard and he carried a paintbrush. I am SO not creative (got the idea from someone else). He actually won for best costume .

DD15 was James Harriott-she wore one of DH's old suit coats, tan pants,a hat and glasses.

DS15 was St. Patrick (Catholic school so this was ok). We did a similar thing with fabric (in Green) that we did for DS18 and he carried a walking stick. He also won for best costume, again from his not at all creative mom so I was shocked .

Another Clara Barton here! We used a white paint smock with a red cross on it, plus the cap.

If you don't know who she is then she is a historical figure that would be an excellent choice.

My dd's know who she is because I made sure they did.

I did a report on Amelia Earhart in grade school! That's what I wore, and I put a pair of ski goggles on my head!

I think you can buy nurses hat at party supply stores

One of my DDs did a book report (biography) as Princess Diana--she wore one of my old prom dresses (tea length on 5' me, floor length on her), sparkly jewelry, a tiara, and gloves.

Another DD had a "wax museum" of past presidents. Alas, no females (yet!) so she picked John Quincy Adams. She wore an old suit of DH's. (and a pillow in the front, as he was quite overweight.)

My daughter did a biography on the clothing designer Vera Wang. She wore leggings, my Simply Vera Wang shirt and some clunky jewelery. Of course, Vera is big on wedding gowns. Of course she couldn't bring those in, but went to the library and got some of the discarded magazines and made a bridal gown "portfolio" of vera gowns

She also found samples of Vera Wang perfume and handed them out (the fold out cards in magazines)

The girls and the language arts teacher loved it. It was something different than the usual Clara Barton, Betsey Ross, Hilary Clinton, etc.

She was wavering between Condelezza Rice and Vera Wang (they were the two female biographies left). She was very happy she found the biography on Vera Wang.

My daughter dressed up as Betsy Ross last year. I'm not good at putting costumes together and I got a cheap but cute costume online. Plus she needed a prop to go along with it so we also got a flag. My daughter also was interested in being Betsy Ross so it worked out.

DS was Charlie Chaplin...one of DH suit coats, baggy pants and his big shoes, hat eyeliner and mustache...done. To have a girl do it would be even cooler.

My DS9 had to do this last year for school (3rd grade), his school calls it "The Living History Museum". DS went as Babe Ruth.
