Family trip to Vegas!

WOW!!!! Definitely need to take a trip to Zion National Park.....AMAZING from the pictures.

Me and DH stay at the Desert Rose resort, it has 1 and 2 bedrooms. It is right behind Hooters and The Tropicana.

The living room sofa is also a bed. It has free breakfast everyday. Full kitchen. Pool , jacuzzi. BBQ's as well. Gym, and laundry room. It is very quiet. I love it.

We took the advice of others here and chose the Desert Rose too - and were extremely pleased with the accommodations. It is a little oasis just off the strip and VERY family friendly. I traveled with my somewhat elderly parents to my niece's wedding last December. I've been to LV with my DH and 2 teen boys, but had stayed with relatives on those trips - but if we ever go back, we will stay at the Desert Rose. Having an included breakfast is pretty much unheard of in LV, so this is a real bonus - as is the happy hour food in the late afternoon.

Check out their tripadvisor reviews too. It's not a fancy/showy place, but very nice, comfortable and spacious. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath and loved it.

The only negative I would say was the extremely thick (like a brick) pillows. Not my taste, so I rolled up a towel and was fine. :)

Here's a hint: sign up to be on their email list and you might get a discount. I used a Black Friday code and got one night free with 2 paid nights! :thumbsup2

We took our daughter when she was 8 and we had a blast. We drove cross country last year and stopped in Vegas for 3 nights. We love Fremont Street. This is the old Vegas downtown. They have a light show at night that is awesome. The street entertainers are amazing. Plenty of family friendly stuff. Lots of impersonators to take pics with. Honestly if your kids watch tv or go to the beach they have seen more than they will see there. We went to Silver and Gold Pawn shop. I hadn't ever watched the show until we went. The shopping is another great thing to do. I know everyone doesn't agree but I think Vegas is very family friendly. We saw lots of families there. A trip to Hoover Dam is a must. Very educational for everyone. We went to Earl of Sandwich. Just as good as downtown Disney.

There is a pinball museum in Vegas - somewhere that I didn't find out about until after our trip. My DD would have loved that at any age. There is also the Hoover Dam - that our DD would have enjoyed, but I could appreciate that not ever 10-12 year old would.

And -the Red Rock Canyon area was nice to see (don't think DD would have enjoyed it). We only did this because we had a car to go to the Hoover Dam.

I don't think there would have been much that would have offended DD - at any age in the daytime.

I second this suggestion. We stumbled upon Tahiti Village just using hotels.com. It was amazing and incredibly family-friendly. Clean....spacious...fabulous pool! It reminded me a lot of a DVC property.

We took the shuttle to the Strip one evening and walked around a bit....saw the fountains at Bellagio, the ships at the Venetian, etc.

I wish we could find another property like Tahiti Village closer to where we live....

I would highly recommend Tahiti Village. We just stayed there for spring break in a one bedroom condo. It is on Las Vegas Blvd by the airport. Soundproofing was fine. Never heard the airplanes inside. They had a fabulous pool area as well as a lazy river. My DSs, 9 and 11, loved it. They have a shuttle that goes to the strip every half hour. There are several chain restaurants as well as a grocery store just south of the area.

We also did day trips to Zion National Park and Death Valley National Park. Only 2 to 3 hour drives each way. We did spend half day on the Strip because my kids wanted to go to M&M World but they were not impressed with all the people and pics of naked women on the ground. They did spend lots of money at M&M World though :) PM me if you have any questions. I think your family will have a fabulous time as long as you are focused on spending all your time on the Strip.

We have stayed at the Stratosphere, The Mirage, and the Marriott (Marriott was off-strip) with kids.

We used to go meet DH's family there every year.

Vegas is not our favorite place and we would never choose to go there on our own. We have only gone to meet family who liked it OR we have gone for business trips.

My kids did like going up in the Stratosphere (we weren't brave enough for any rides but we did eat up there in the revolving restaurant. We also did Circus Circus but I think that is gone. Kids went golfing several days, went to the Hoover Dam, and walked around to see the themes of several hotels. They also liked the light show. We had tickets to Seigfried and Roy but that was when they had just had that Tiger attack so we weren't able to go.

My middle son was sick and we were trying to get him to the nearest bathroom ASAP, but the security at the hotel (can't remember which one) in the casino made a HUGE deal about him not being old enough to leave the solid red portion of the carpet. In all the fiasco we didn't make it to the bathroom on time so my son promptly threw up on the solid red portion of the carpet! :rolleyes1

I had to laugh because A.) if the guy hadn't made us stop, we would have made it to a toilet, and B.) because even though the guy seemed annoyed, I was quite sure they had seen many a vomit on their PATTERNED portions of their carpet!

Did I mention Vegas is not our favorite place?????

It stinks that your son wasn't able to get to a bathroom in time, but it always pays to know the basic regulations of one's travel destination.

It's illegalfor anyone under eighteen to be on the casino floor in Las Vegas. That's why areas are indicated with different flooring.

I have taken my kids to LV a couple of times for just a few days (tweens and teens at the time). There was plenty to do. We stayed at the Luxor both times because my kids were big "Mummy" fans. We spent an hour just looking at the theming of the hotel. We visited NYNY for the coaster, went to the top of the Stratosphere, drove out to the Hoover Dam, hung out at the pool, rode the LV monorail transportation to check out some of the hotels, went to the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, watched the fountains at Bellagio and just about everything outside that is free. One trip, we had an extra day and went to Freemont street for the "Experience". There were a lot of free acts plus the light show. We killed at least 4 hours checking out Freemont Street.

When my DH first suggested we add Vegas to our itinerary in 2010 my first response was 'We can't take the kids there!' After much research I came to realise the there is actually a lot for kids to see in Vegas.

We had DS6 and DD4 at the time and spent our days exploring the different attractions at each hotel with a day trip to the Grand Canyon. The kids loved the lions at MGM, the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, dolphin habitat at the Mirage plus M&M World & the coke shop.

We stayed at Aria on the strip and it was beautiful. We didn't get to see any shows as they weren't very family friendly and no we didn't experience the real 'sin city' after dark but we got to see the family friendly version of Vegas and we all had a blat!

There is a Hilton Vacation Club on the north end of the strip and behind the Flamingo with beautiful villas with full kitchens and no casinos. Also there is the Wyndham Grand Desert resort right off the strip with multi bedroom villas and pools. The dolphin and tiger habitat at the Mirage is great!Very relaxing and you can get really close to the dolphins. At the Planet Hollywood mall there is a show in the afternoon called Popovich Comedy Pet show. Nathan Burton comedy magic show is also family friendly.

Awesome feedback!! Thank you!!
Can someone please tell me about free attractions that are a must see?? Also, is it expensive to eat in Vegas?

Another vote for Desert Rose we have stayed their twice the kids love it, we love having a kitchen to cook as well.
This is a must place to eat for us the kids saw it on man vs food before our 2010 trip and wanted to eat there really nice meals.
