Family Suite or 2 rooms

Hello!

Should I switch from the All Stars Music Family Suite to 2 rooms at Pop Century or any of the other All Star Resorts? We are a party of 6, DH, DM, 3 DDs and myself. My mom will have a wheelchair and would be having two of my teenage daughters in her room. I found out I could save about $400 for the week by doing so but I don't know if we'll get rooms near each other! What you think? Please I need advice!

We have 2 rooms booked at POP for next Jan. I prefer the 2 rooms because instead of having mostly pull outs for beds (in the suites) you get 4 actual beds. We have requested connecting rooms. I have never had a problem getting connecting rooms in any of our other trips. You lose the fridge and microwave, but we dont need them anyway. I am on a fridge swap for POP in Jan. I dont think my Mom or MIL would want to sleep on a pull out for a week. I know people say they are comfy , but Im not taking any chances. I have yet to get a comfy pull out bed anywhere.

I would go with the two rooms at POP. You would have 4 full size beds instead of 1 queen and pull-outs. We asked for connecting rooms and got them. Getting adjoining rooms would probably not be a problem. We loved POP.

Make sure you tell them the situation when booking and they can note it in a way that will help you get adjoining or connecting. "Grandma w/ wheelchair...our children, yada yada..."

I was going ahead with a family suite at the ASMu next summer until I read this thread. Question: how much is a family suite (minus any potential discounts)? Are you saying that 2 rooms are cheaper per day than the family suite If so, we'll just continue to stay at the ASMo and ask for adjoining rooms...HELP PLEASE

Also found this info on the suites:
***1-6 adults may stay in a suite for the same set price.
(There is an additional fee of $10 per night for a 3rd or 4th additional adult in a standard value room.) So if you have a lot of adults this would save you money, but sleeping on a pullout doesn't really sound too appealing to me.

Hi. I struggled with the same question for our upcoming trip and decided on the two rooms. I wanted my teenage sons to each have a bed instead of a pull out. With the two rooms at POP, I got the AAA discount, whereas the suites don't qualify for any discounts. With the two rooms, we get two bathrooms--I think the suites have one bathroom, but I forget! I missed out on the fridge swap, but plan on taking a mini cooler to keep milk in for breakfast cereal--that's pretty much all I'd use a fridge for anyway.

Oh, just to give you rates---
We're paying $1033.20 for 7 nights-value season/POP/ two rooms/AAA discount. A suite would have cost $1415.96, so we are saving $400 by doing the two rooms.

Just an FYI


For comparison, the price of a Family Suite is $9-11 more then 2 Standard Rooms, or $13-15 less the 2 Preferred Rooms, depending on season.

Also a fridge is included in AS Suite.

Fridges cost $10 a night to rent when staying at a value . Don't forget the Queen size bed,a coffee pot and microwave are also in Family Suites.


There is no extra fee for extra adults staying in a Suite. 1-6 adults can stay in a Family Suite for the set price.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts are very comfortable in the Family Suites.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

These are same make of foldouts they putting into the DVC resorts.

AKL Villa will also the fold out chair in their new Studios so they can sleep 5.

Here is photo of the foldout from one of the DVC rooms. ( the DVC fold out is the same type of pull out the Family Suites has but the DVC ones are prettier and have a nicer fabric.

The suites are really nice and my kids had no problems with the pull-outs. Believe me, they are very big complainers and if they weren't comfy we would have heard about it. They do have 2 bathrooms and the fridge, sink, microwave and cabinets made it a pure pleasure. A nice upgrade to all-stars without the price of the "deluxe" resorts.

For our next trip we originally wanted the suites again but they were booked, so we had to take 2 connecting rooms at POP. Well that was when we booked on a Fri., by Sun night a cancellation must have taken place at the suites for the week we wanted because it showed up online. Without hesitation I got back on the phone with the res. line and changed to the ASMu suites!!

Have you thought about the sleeping arrangements in the family suite.
Grandma would have to share the queen bed with one DD or be on the sofa bed, If she is in a wheelchair it would not be very comfortable for her to be on a sofa or to share a bed, however if you have interconnecting rooms there is 4 proper beds so then she would be able to have one all to herself.
Just a thought!
Also if you are worried about not having a fridge there is plenty of free fridge swaps on these boards for all the value resorts

As much as I love the Family Suites if grandma is in a WC the Family Suites might not be the best choice for your family.

Did you book a Handicapped accessible Family Suite for your party?

Does Grandma need a roll in shower?

Can she use a tub?

Does she need hand rails in tub area?

Does she need a raised toilet seat and /or hand rails by the toilet?

If she needs any of those items you should call Disney and have the CM speak to special sevices. They will work with you and try very hard to determine what type of room configuaration will best meet your family's needs.

If Grandma is just using a wheelchair for distances, but doesn't need it for getting around in the room, it doesn't matter whether you have a family suite or 2 rooms. (But, see minnie61650's questions - if Grandma doesn't need any of those things, you won't need a Handicapped accessible room).

If you want 2 rooms that are next to each other and have a door inside that connects them to each other - you want to ask for "Connecting Rooms". If you don't care whether they connect and just want them close by, you can ask for them to be close by or for them to be "Adjoining".
Adjoining means they are next to each other, so all Connecting rooms adjoin, but not all adjoining rooms connect.
