family staterooms sell out?

I've heard that the Family Staterooms (Cat4) sell out more than a year in advance. So if I'm travelling on points and can't book until the 11-month window, is there any chance of getting a Cat4? Has anyone been successful getting Cat4 on points - how? (If not, is there ever a point discount on an adjoining stateroom for the kids so I don't have to pay for 4 adults when there are only 2?) I know many of you would sell your points and pay cash for cruise, but I'm a new member (1st use year Aug 03-04) and am not yet ready for that... Any tips would be greatly appreciated and we can go in Spring rather than summer since our kids are homeschooled.

I can't help you with points but try Beginning of May. It lloked like there were still decent prices for the spring. We book cat 4 always and have never booked more than a year out and we go in december. I think they sell out early for the summer tough.

Hi there!!

I think you will be fine. It's Cats 1, 2 and 3 that sell out a year in advance. Cat 4 are more plentiful, so I do believe you will be fine.
They will sell out faster in the summer months, but, if you are booking 11 months out, I am sure you will have no problem booking Cat 4.

I've cruised in May and am going again this May...May is a great time to go, we just pull the kids out of school for the week....

I booked our June 29, 2003 Wonder cruise on points 11 months out in a cat. 4. Used cash for the youngest. There were several to choose from, because I had a diagram with me and the first one she suggested was right under the goofy pool--I remembered that those can be noisy, so I asked for another option and got one under the quiet pool, right next to the Roy Disney suite, #8528.
