Okay (clears throat) I am 20 years old and the last time we went to Disney I was 15 or so. The last time we went, we were FORCED to wear "family shirts" on our Magic Kingdom day. They didint have names our anything they were just all matching! Were taking another family trip mid-August and I definitely dont want to go through this again but if I HAVE to.... has anybody seen any "cool" shirts??:cool2:

Hi!
I'm a 40+ mom. My DH, DD13, & DS9 always "humor" me by wearing our matching Disney shirts I have planned for EVERY day of our trips (and our trips are 9 or 10 days long).

I think my kids figure that if a simple thing like that can make mom happy, then..."why not?"

I'm glad you want to please your mom. Good for you!!:thumbsup2

PS....Last summer, I got us a nice matching set at the gift shop at the Beach Club. It's got Mickey relaxing in the sun in a lounge chair.

If you go to Disney Shopping you can create your own "family" shirt and personalize it if you wish. It's through something called Zazzle (I think).

Why don't you head on over to the creative board and look at some of those designs, they have some pretty good ones if you want to make some shirts, if not all I can think of is the disney store.

We just did matching tye dye from www.tyedyeusa.com. Very cheap and we had lots of great comments. I liked the bright green ones (in fact the spider lime ones on the sale this month) the best for finding "lost" family members.

I bought six sets for our 10 day trip and washed them halfway through. :hippie:

Well.... there is a spectrum of "matching family shirts". You could be in the entirely home-made category, which - let's face it - can be either campy cool or totally creepy.

In your case, I suspect you'd rather be in the store-bought category. There are a lot of options here. You can get matching styles, which means same shirts/different logos, or same logo/different colors.

My family had matching shirts with the American flag on them. The red ones had a Minnie and the blue ones had a Mickey. We all matched - but we weren't identical.

Or you could opt for different colors (of the same style shirt), but everyone could put the same logo on the chest.

Another option is going to the Disney Store or even Waldemort, and finding a bunch of matching shirts with different characters. One year Disney Store was selling many shirts that looked like the cover of fictional Disney comic books. We each chose our own, but we all had the same theme.

Talk to your Mom and see if she's willing to compromise!

have you thought about rhinestone tanks for the girls??

ya know to be honest...you might have felt silly, but i bet everyone thought it was great!!!
the cool thing about wdw is that you get to act like a kid & its accepted!!! so go with it!! & have a blast!!!!

we just got back and we had matching shirts for the 3 days we were in the parks-we got a TON of compliments on them. All of the designs came from someone on the boards-free. I just bought the shirts and the transfers.

Here is a picture of some I had made on the disney shopping site through zazzle.

They are all incredibles but not identical, they have lots of different characters to choose from, maybe you could all pick one Disney movie and each get a different character or something like that.

On our last trip, my family of four, plus the kids' incredibly cool (and usually highly fashion-conscious) 30-something godmother, all wore matching tiedye shirts that we personalized with character iron-ons. Were we campy? You bet!

HOWEVER... .

We got a LOT of comments, extra character interaction, and even TWO dreams on our trip. I'm convinced it was due to our matching shirts. :thumbsup2 Not only that, our pictures turned out GREAT. :goodvibes

Now, we went with the (admittedly unfashionable) tiedye because DD (then 7) disappears instantaneously from a group and becomes deaf to her name, giving DH and me heart failure. Tiedye is incredibly visible in crowds, which made it much easier to find her. Obviously your crew is far older and you don't need to worry about such things. Maybe you can talk your family into picking a color of the day, rather than going with truly matching shirts? How about matching hats, or maybe matching color hats?

Good luck!

I feel your pain! I'm not a matching t kinda person either! However, since you are being "forced" to wear one, I agree with the PP who suggested disneyshopping.com and create your own T-shirt. I ordered a POTC shirt for my DH for P&PP. We just got it yesterday and it turned out really nice.

If you are creative, create your own design and get some of that iron on paper from Office Max/Depot. You could print the design on the paper from your home computer and iron it on any T. Your family will have a cool, unique design and you can take all the credit it! Just a thought!

What a cute idea, you ordered these on the Disney Shopping site? Do you remember what you paid for them?

Perhaps you & I share the same definition of cool. I think I saw a family picture on these boards all wearing this style of matching shirts. I thought it was very cute and yet still, uh, cool? They make them in toddler to adult size, so everyone can 'coordinate' (I like that word better than match) and the best part is you could easily all get different colors, but still be very much a coordinated group. Dig? Hope that helps some. Good luck!! :thumbsup2

We had the matching tye dye and we got a lot of comments! We may have looked a little funny but we had a great time! And we plan on doing it every year. Here is a pic from our 2006 trip!

We had tie dyed shirts in rainbow colors - very colorful and they really stood out! We also had lots of nice comments and it was fun to be noticed! But the best part was the photo pass photo - it turned out GREAT!!!! We are definitely doing that again this year!

My DD wasn't too hip on the idea either, but she ended up enjoying it too.

I think the adults were about $20 and the kids around $16 but I did it when I could get 25% off and free shipping. Just go to www.disneyshopping.com and there is a button on the left side saying disney personalize or something like that and you can see what they have.

There are WONDERFUL ideas on that Board! I am making shirts for all 11 days of our upcoming Mom & Son trip. DS is completely on board (at least now!) because he knows that we will be in Disney and somehow the matching thing is part of the fun.

I hope you find something that you really like. Being a Mom myself, I know how important those little things can be! :goodvibes

What about matching t-shirts that aren't Disney related? Last year I had the kids wear team t-shirts...Cubs one day, Packers the next. This year I'm thinking about ordering "green" t-shirts for all of us. Cafepress.com has lots of them as does zazzle.com. I think it would be so funny to put "Mom mom recycles more than your mom" t-shirts on the little guy! We'll see if my husband is up for it!

I think you are fantastic for going along with your Mom on this.....I am always looking for something my boys will wear that will match.....I will be keeping a close eye on this thread for ideas that my 17 and 16 year old sons will be happy with.
