Family room at DLH

We're heading out to DLP in July after our Med cruise for the first time. I was looking at the website for the hotel options for our party (2 adults, 1 three year old, 1 infant) and it said "Room with 2 double beds" or "Family room for 5 people". I get what the room with 2 double beds is, but what is a Family room? I couldn't find anymore info about it on the website. The price difference is about $1500 for 5 nights so I want to see if this will be worth it. My daughter can share a bed with me or my mom and my son can either sleep in a crib if they have them (I'm assuming they do) or I guess in my bed if not, so the 2 double beds would be fine.

Also, we were planning to book a package, but I see they come with admission for everyday of your stay. We only want to go to DLP for 3 days, but stay at the DLH for 5 days, using the other 2 to visit Paris. Can we just get park tickets for 3 days but 5 nights in the hotel with the package or do we have to get 5 days of park tickets too?

Family rooms have enough beds for 5 people. Whether that be a double and then 3 singles, or two doubles and a full sized single bed I'm not sure. You can have 5 people in any regular room at DLRP as long as the smallest person is under 3, as soon as they hit 3 then they are classed as a child and then need to be in a proper bed. For example if we want to stay in a DLRP hotel next year we will need a family room as my daughter will be 3 years old so there will be 5 of us.

For your party I would say that you only need a regular room. They will provide a cot for your baby boy, and then you and your daughter can share and your Mum can have the other bed. There is no point paying $1500 for an extra bed that no-one will sleep in!!

Regarding the package, the tickets come with it. To book a room only package is possible then you can buy individual tickets for your stay, but i'm not sure if you will save any money as the ticket price included in the package is nothing like the full value of the tickets. I know that some people book the hotels without the tickets then buy annual passports, however I think you are in the US and therefore unlikely to use them again in the year, so probably not worth doing?

Personally I'd get the package. If you are staying at the DLH you are so close to the parks that even if you don't want to spend the whole day there, you are close enough to pop in before the kids go to bed to watch a parade, or have a last ride before bed or something.

most packages for DLRP include the tickets anyway and the price difference between 3 and 5 day ticketes would not be much anyway.

we looked into this quite extensively and have found out that a `family room`is a normal room at the DLH 2 doubles and a pull out single bed(like a sofa bed but a chair bed).we are going in march 2 adults 3 kids all over 3 yrs and decided for the difference in price we were better to book 2 rooms and cross our fingers and toes for connecting rooms as a family room is classed as a suite in booking terms and couldn`t be booked until much nearer our date leaving us at risk of not getting a booking,the extra money for a family room really didn`t seem worth it for what you got

I might be wrong but I'm sure that I read that one of the new packages, part of the "Tailor-made dreams" being introduced in 2007 gave the option of booking a Disney hotel for more days than park entry.
It might be worth ringing DLRP to double check.

Thanks everyone for the info! Yeah, if it's just the addition of a sofa bed then there's definitely no need to spend the extra money.

And I'm headed to check out that link about adding extra days without tickets. That will be perfect for us since my son is the 'must be in bed by 6:30pm' type of kid so I'm guessing that by the time we sightsee in Paris and return to the hotel he'll be ready for bed so park admission would be a bit of a waste.
