Family of 5 at POP...one under 5 YO.......

I honestly don't find the rooms too small. I've stayed in smaller much more expensive rooms at other places.

I also don't think they will have a problem with the 2 year old sleeping. I have found that at that age my kids would nap in the stroller so they wouldn't need to go to bed too early and that they were so tired that they tended to sleep very well. I was also tired so I didn't mind going to bed when my kids did.:rotfl:

I am sure they will have a very magical trip!!!!!

There were 2 adults and a 9 year old and 2 2 year olds when we stayed there.
A pack and play just fit. The room was small, but totally comfortable. We loved it. They should have no problem, and if they do it would be pretty crappy. They are blessed to be able to go. That is so incredible of you to do that for them! What a blessing:wizard:

I have to laugh at the number of people who say sharing the bathroom is such a big issue.

I don't know how my family ever survived with 5 of us sharing one bathroom every day while I was growing up!

I hear ya.. we are a family of 6 and only have 1 bathroom. Not a big deal to us.

kelma says : I definitely wouldn't pay for a preferred room there. We stayed in a regular old room last year and were thrilled with our distance to everything. We were in a corner room in the 70's

While I respect the fact that you wouldn't want to pay the extra $10/night for a preferred, I disagree with your statement. The 70's section standard is fine. But try being in the furthest 80's and 90's sections ! I got stuck there the last 2 out of 3 stays with a standard view. You were thrilled with the distance to everything because the 70's is in a good area---even the standard. BUT....if you are unlucky enough to get the 80's or 90's you would think differently. The 80's and 90's are not close to everything like the 70's is.

The most recent stay at POP (Feb), we were in the absolute farthest room in the 90's. It was a good 10 min walk (sometimes through pouring rain) to get to the food court/bus stop. We tried cutting through the parking lot a couple times and almost got hit by cars on more than one ocassion. Not safe. Especially with a 2 yo in tow.
And I have teens. If you had a 2 yo, as this family does, I could see it taking longer as far as walking and being even more inconvenient.

So again, it's only a suggestion, but just wanted to let the OP know that not everyone with a standard view gets lucky enough to get a room in the 50's or 70's. The entire 80's and 90's is standard and it can be a hike from personal experience. I've got preferred booked this trip (1st time in 4 stays at POP), because I was unhappy with our rooms in the 80's and 90's the last two visits. Just some food for thought........

We're a family of 5 too.....we do prefer more than one bathroom. But if one is a 2 yo, I doubt it would be a problem for this family.
But on vacation sharing a bathroom is a different thing. All 5 of you are getting up and trying to get ready to leave at the same time. At home, people are on different work and school schedules so it's a little easier with one bathroom. Having two bathrooms is a plus for a family of 5+ especially as kids get older (teens).

I completely get your point of view, but for us it was not a big deal. Our room was in the 70's, but it was the far left corner of it just above the 80's and we parked in the 70's parking lot which is behind the 80's. Many mornings we had to run to the car first because we forgot something or needed to check on our windshield that had mysteriously cracked on our brand new van :sad2: . We walked there and then headed over to the main building or to the buses. It didn't seem bad to me, but again that was just to me. Personally, I would not want to be in a preferred room near the swimming pool because quiet is worth more to me than walking further. But, I completely get that other people don't feel the same way.

I also think your point was very valid. It's good for folks to know ahead of time that their walk may be further than they might expect. For some folks it won't be a big deal, but for others it will and it's good to know that there are different points of view on the subject :)

You have done soo much for this family already but have you considered or are you going to give them a going away gift basket or anything? Or could get some of the items from the Dollar Store that people use to organize their rooms. There is a great thread about keeping your room organized--among the ideas--the hanging shoe holder for toiletries, pop up laundry hamper, bag to hang off the shower with all those items, little baskets to deposit daily "stuff" and keep "must take to park" items together each night. I would also keep a watch for codes during the time they are going---perhaps with a code you could upgrade them to a mod.

They are going to have a great time and as all of us here know, you can afford what you can afford and in the end it really doesn't matter that much. We've stayed at every level of resort except a tent and we've always had a great time. I'm also thinking of the two older kids, I'm betting they will spend very little time in the room so mom and dad will probably be able to get the 2 year old settled in the evening while the older kids are checking out the resort, the pool, the arcade etc.

I agree to tell Disney. You never know if an upgrade is available they may do something.
