I must say it is totally refreshing that the family who had the light fixture fall on them because the M&M float hit it at the Macy's Parade are NOT going to sue. I watched them on the tv just now and they said it was just an accident and as long as the kids were okay they had no reason to sue. HOW REFRESHING!!

I am so sick of these leaches who look for the smallest thing wrong to sue. I think in particular of the person who sued McDonald's because she was burned by hot coffee she purchased!!

This family has a disabled child also and she was one of those involved in the accident.

Finally a story that has some holiday spirit. I hope the M&M company gives these people a life time supply of candy just for being so nice.

I agree! Sometimes you just have to chalk things up to accidents. While I can certainly see suing when there truly is negligence--a surgeon leaves a clamp in your body for example--suing because things don't go your way is just ridiculous.

As long as M&M Mars or the City of NY or Macy's is picking up the tab for any medical bills not covered by their insurance, I see no reason to sue in this case.

I totally agree! It is nauseating how so many people want to sue for so many stupid things, mostly out to make a fast buck because, in many cases, they are to lazy to get off their duffs to get a real job and earn their own money. :sad2:

Many years ago, my Mom was in the grocery store shopping and she accidently dropped a can of green beans on her foot. A lady who saw it walked over to her and said, "I saw the whole thing. I think you should sue". Boy did my Mom give it to her! She chewed her out up onside and down the other, informing her that it is because of people like her that frivilous lawsuits occur and everyone bears the financial burden. "Besides, why should I sue", my Mom asked, "I was the one that dropped the beans on my own foot"! :teeth:

I don't even see the need to sue in this type of case. Doctors are HUMAN and HUMANS make mistakes. It is this type of thing that drives up the cost of malpractice insurance, which in turn drives up the cost of going to the doctor.

To the OP, I saw this family on TV this morning too and I was happy to see they aren't going to sue either. It was clearly an accident, nothing to sue anyone over.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that yesterday, and they have accept VIP seats for next year's parade!

To me this is negligence rather than a mistake, because it's not just the surgeon, there is a whole team of people responsible for checks and balances. It's no different than a surgeon removing the wrong kidney. On the other hand, requiring a second surgery because the first one isn't healing well is IMHO not a reason to sue--that's just one of those things that happens.

Oh no. That surgeon isn't the only one standing over a body -- there are several other "humans" standing around who are supposed to make sure "mistakes" of that magnitude don't happen. That's negligence, plain and simple, and for as much as I hate frivolous lawsuits -- that's not one of them.

I knew a woman who ended up having a scalpel sewn inside of her and she got such a bad infection from it, she wasn't able to have any children after that. Some mistakes should hit a doctor where it hurts -- in the wallet and in their ability to practice medicine.

We posted that at the same time. :rotfl:

Or what about the doctor (in Florida?) who cut the wrong foot or leg off of his patient? But hey, mistakes happen. No biggie.

I agree. With so many people out there looking to work every angle to take advantage of every situation to their own benefit, it's refreshing to see someone acting with such personal integrity.
