Does anyone have a suggestion of beach to go to near Disney? (Under 2 hours) We'd like to visit a beach on a nice day. We go Feb. 9-18. Thanks for any suggestions.

Daytona beach is nice, so is Siesta key, both are under 2 hours from the house of mouse

I would pick Siesta Key over Daytona. In my opinion, I felt Daytona was dirty due to the vehicles driving on the beach.

Absolutely!! Siesta Key for us too. It is the nicest beach ever. We are actually going to venture off to Siesta Key while we are there. WE are just going to leave very early it takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours easy to drive too, but it is sooooo worth it. :dance3:

Where is this is relation to Disney we are coming from NY and would love some time at the beach we were thinking heading to one on our day to leave, we always fly but we are attempting our first family road trip, 3 families in total, 10 kids combined, yes we are nuts:confused3

I can't exactly remember the exact directions, it is very easy though, I think you just take I-4 straight down pass the Bradenton exit and it is 20 minutes past that exit...but Mapquest it just in case. The nicest thing about Siesta Key is that the water is the perfect temp. and it only comes up to your waist if you want.....my 3 year old had a blast the waves are really little too. The beach is beautiful and the atmosphere is just very Family.......

New Smyrna is a nice family friendly beach. Ormand Beach is very nice too.
Growing up we liked to go to New Smyrna instead of Daytona b/c of the crowds. Then before we moved here we liked to take the kids to Ormand for the same reason.

Siesta key is not on the way back to NY. It's in Sarasota, so 2-3 hours southwest of WDW. It makes a big difference in the distance driving home. We have family there. If you choose to add a night on the way home, we like the Country inn & suites off clark road. It's about a 10 minute drive down Clark Road to Siesta Key. It's not in a pretty location, but it's a decent hotel and it's very safe. I think the actually address is Gantt road. Something with a G.

It's route i-4 west for ~50 miles
to rt 75 south for ~60 miles
to rt 72/clark road west (exit 205)
5-6 miles until you cross over the water (the bay, I guess :) )
go right on Midnight Pass Road
Siesta public beach is on your left

You will see signs off 75 for Sarasota. There are 3-4 Sarasota exits and Clark rd/rt 72 is the last one.

But please check a map. :)

Just don't plan on swimming in February -- the water temp is going to be pretty dang low at that time, 64F on average at Siesta Key. Daytona, being the Atlantic, is going to be colder. This is a webcam for Siesta Beach: http://www.sarasotasurf.com/accommodations/webcam.cfm

If you actually want to get into the water in February you would want to go MUCH further south, at least as far as Ft. Myers.
