Family friendly beach/resort near WDW?

We are traveling with my sister in law and her family next summer, and they want to go to a beach for a few days after our WDW vacation. We'll be leaving WDW on a Thursday morning and they'll be staying at a hotel near a beach until Sunday morning, at which time they'll leave to drive back to NY.

They have two kids, a girl age 5 and a boy age 3, and this will be over Labor Day weekend. Any beach and/or hotel recommendations? This will be their first family vacation but I'm lost on recommending anything outside of WDW for them.

It's probably a little farther south then you want to go, I am thinking about 2 hrs awspay but the kids would love it and there is free parking:

Manasota Key Beach

My picture won't load of the location. It's south of Venice/north of englewood...actually it may even be englewood.

But it's shark teeth galore. My kids love it and we went for the first time in 2015 and twice on our trip in April and I plan on going twice this coming April. This year the water wasn't crystal clear blue thanks to the draining of lake okeechobee but in 2015 crystal clear to the point I could see the conch shells that I was avoiding.
